Windows apps blacked out in start menu

It seems most if not all windows apps, like the calendar, calculator, camera etc. are blacked out and when I click to open them it says error cannot open. Why did this happen all the sudden? I just installed the most recent update for Windows 10. Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363 It started a few days ago before the update.

Unfortunately the Win 10 start menu seems remarkably vulnerable. I've never seen problems personally.

Various things you can try - the Tutorial section here is a great resource- take some time to become familiar with it-

Start Menu Troubleshooter in Windows 10
Restart Start Menu in Windows 10
Reset Start Layout in Windows 10
Re-register Start Menu in Windows 10

Why did this happen all of a sudden?
Unfortunately my crystal ball is currently down for scheduled maintenance.

Try launching the apps independently of the Start Menu.

    a. if you were to install Open Shell (free) as an alternative start menu (you can still use the Win 10 start menu) you could use that.
    b. Use the taskbar search box or via Win key + S to search for an app and launch it.

Otherwise If the problem lies wiht the apps themselves you can try

The apps aren't blacked out now but they still don't work when you click on them. Anyone know a solution besides resinstalling them? This happened with no restart or update or anything. I don't know how it's possible that all the apps just stopped working.

This happened after the 2004 update for me. You must remove the tile in Start Menu and attempt to place it there again. If the tile comes back broken you probably have to uninstall/reinstall the app.

And now photos app has stopped working today. It worked yesterday, and I haven't updated anything or restarted. What the hell is going on? When I first started using Windows 10 two years ago I really hated it, because it had a lot of issues, but then slowly things seemed to stabilize, but now all the sudden the Windows apps aren't working. WHY?!

What's your problem with reinstalling one and seeing if it fixes that app? That's the first thing I'd do.

So I tired using the reset button under advanced settings, now the apps have disappeared from the windows apps list, but the shortcuts still show in the start menu and when I click uninstall from the start menu, it doesn't do anything. Why is Windows trash? Never had a bad experience with Windows until Windows 10.DKDLK
