I've played with a lot of distros, primarily Ubuntu, Mint Mate and Cinnamon, Puppy but nothing much in the last 5+ years. Folks like Jimbo45 and Berton are the Linux gurus here on tenforums. Never tried Ulyana. From what I can see it's a fork of Cinnamon.

By play, I mean I installed them, tried a few things and dumped them. I saw nothing in them that was of benefit to me.

i put it on 2 laptops and so far it is not running on either one. first i used a asus Eee pc and i had mint on it but mint is terrible. so i trie linuxfx on that asus pc and it just didnot like to run, it was slooooow so i gave up on that for now. so then i got a cheap hard drive off ebay and installed linuxfx/windowsfx and it installed but it will not boot. for some reason they forgot the bootlaoder part of the program or the hp probook will not install linuxfx's bootloader. so for me it is back to windows on the hp probook and i may try a dual boot but i have to think hard about that on a known working hard drive that boots.

i went to source forge and asked them if they have a clue as to why that OS did not boot. now to wait and see if they have an answer. thanks

To me, one major reason why Linux will never truly make a serious inroad to Windows pc/laptop dominance is that there are so many different variations. Ok with Windows, there are multiple editions, but each one is targeted at a specific target audience.

I've been a Linux Mint Cinnamon fan for years. A post by Jack Wallen of TechRepublic that Windowsfx is the Linux distribution Windows users have been looking for prompted me to try Windowsfx preview 2 on a 6-yr-old Dell Latitude E7450 laptop (with 4GB RAM) two days ago.

Bearing in mind that I was trying the Free version - not the full-featured version - and that it's a preview, i.e. still a beta... I was impressed and posted about my initial impressions on AskWoody.

I doubt that it will survive... but it's very impressive IMO.

    Hope this helps...
