How many laptops does the average person own

I'm new to this website. I was just wondering how many laptops does the average person own? Care to comment? Up until a month ago I never owned a laptop. My wife has owned three now, one at a time. I just bought an LG Gram 13.3 inch, a DELL XPS 15 Touch and a MacBook Air. I may have overdone it? My wife's current one is the new Dell XPS 17 inch.

I have more than that on hand but most have been rehabbed/salvaged instead of going to the landfill, most work okay with Win10 but good enough to fill a need for those who can't afford to buy one, have given away 4 this year, one has WinVista. I have 2 with Linux Mint, used to have a MacBook Pro from 2010 until the drive controller on the motherboard failed.

I have two with Win 10 - after all, one must have a backup...!!! - actually one is physically larger, good screen .. whilst the other is smaller, second hand, and suitable for stuffing in a backpack. No desktop.

I have two others, working but long obsolete that I have to get round to disposing of in some reasonably environmentally friendly way.

Well, I certainly have. But then I'd hardly describe myself as typical.

As Dalchina says, one is never enough, you need a spare should it die on you. Back in the day when I was a serial laptop owner I felt completely cut off when it died unexpectedly. That's when I dashed out to my local pawn shop and bought the first half-way decent laptop they had. That's now my System One in my specs below. I swore I'd never have less than two laptops again, so my System Two arrived a year later, from the same source.

Now neither of those were capable of running Hyper-V virtual machines, so a third joined the fold (again, a used machine).

Then there was the portability problem Dalchina mentioned, so a little 10" netboook (second hand) for holiday use joined the growing collection.

Then it just snowballed (used machines can be so cheap). Another more powerful W10 Pro laptop joined the crowd for more serious Hyper-V use.

All the above run W10, some on 1909, others on 2004 now.

(Did I mention my two other Windows 7 laptops? )

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. What I can say is that --

    1. There are four computers in the house at the moment. (When I was a Mac person we could only afford two.) I have a desktop Asus VivoMini PC and monitor, a Lenovo Flex 14 (as my portable and kitchen TV), a Beelink (Extremely) Mini PC (attached to our TV), and my wife has a 15.6 inch VivoBook as her main computer.

    2. I typically buy extended warranties. At the 3 year mark they expire and I unload the PC on eBay and 'upgrade' that way. (It's nice having a discount off the new one with the eBay sale.) I'm not going to bother selling the Beelink (since it was so cheap in the first place) and it's my desktop PC's backup in case of emergencies. I really want to upgrade the VivoMini because my 3 years are up... but... I'm stalling for a Ryzen 5 or 7 4000 series Mini PC to happen. It's in the air, about to happen, but hasn't yet.

This is interesting but isn't 4000 series.

I currently have two laptops and two custom built desktops.

One laptop is dedicated to the insider program. My backup desktop is for "family" use for when someone needs to use a computer. And my main desktop is strictly mine.

The answer to the question asked is: one

The people reading this forum are not "average" users. The average user has, at most, 1 laptop. I personally have 3 desktops, 2 laptops and 2 tablets. This past year I gave away 1 desktop, 1 laptop and a tablet. Definitely not "average".

I'm probably a below average user for this web site. I have 2 laptops running W10, 1 running Ubuntu, 1 in a drawer for backup, my wifes desktop and a desktop on a shelf when she needs a backup, my desktop is the latest laptop (from 2017).

I have 2 laptops Both DELL Inspiron N7110 17.5 inch. 1 Win 10, 1 Win 7. Older yes! But they work just fine. 5 towers. My main system that's in my specs below and 4 built sitting on the shelf just waiting. And a room full of hardware to build more. No... I'm Not Average.
