    Take Power From Your Car

Since batteries do not use electricity to provide power, remember that they are available to use during an outage. This may include your car battery. Newer vehicles usually have USB charging ports for phones and computers, while older vehicles often have a power socket that special adapter chargers can plug into. When using this method, be sure to run your car in the driveway — well away from the house — and plug your phone or laptop into the car’s charging port.
Safety tip: Remember, it’s never safe to leave a car running while parked inside the garage, even if the garage door is open. Make sure to move the car far away from the house to help prevent a carbon monoxide hazard.
Idling your car for a long period of time is not a good idea. It waste gas/diesel, puts unnecessary hours on your engine causing more wear and tear, a lot of newer cars won't idle for long and in the USA it's against the law.

As for the electricity part in a car, my learning and experience shows the alternator doesn't really charge as well as the older generator at idle speeds and to effectively work the battery has to have some charge/life in it to activate the charging by the alternator. The generator could 'force' the charging.
On the older cars the generator did not produce enough output at Idle. Without the proper output the car was using more power from the battery and not the generator when idling. I remember very well that at night and the car was stopped the headlights would dim and the volt gauge would drop. Alternators will produce more power at idle. You still need a properly charged battery though so the alternator doesn't over work and burn out.

I have a MacBook Pro that I bought in 2014. My wife has a Windows 8 based Samsung Series 7 that we bought in 2013. My daughter has a MacBook that we bought in 2016.

For work, I use a Dell Precision 5530 with Windows 10.

I used only Apple products for 29 years. Sold them in the first West Coast store for years. So I have the right to say --

    -- ditch Apple.

(Nothing personal. Do what you like. But ditch Apple please.)
