On the older cars the generator did not produce enough output at Idle. Without the proper output the car was using more power from the battery and not the generator when idling. I remember very well that at night and the car was stopped the headlights would dim and the volt gauge would drop. Alternators will produce more power at idle. You still need a properly charged battery though so the alternator doesn't over work and burn out.
So I've been wrong all these 60+ years, guess the shop teachers before that were also wrong.
I have a MacBook Pro that I bought in 2014. My wife has a Windows 8 based Samsung Series 7 that we bought in 2013. My daughter has a MacBook that we bought in 2016.
For work, I use a Dell Precision 5530 with Windows 10.
