My complete Word Documents Folder (saved) disappeared without warning

Brand new to Ten Forums, and man do I need help. My complete Word Documents File disappeared last week, and I have been unable to retrieve them. These are all saved documents, compiled over several years, that cannot be found. Took my laptop to the local computer gurus but no joy. They told me initially, that the files must be somewhere - it's just the signpost to the files that needs to be located. But, after applying a couple of revovery programs they tell me that the files could not be retrieved. Am I dead in the water, or is there any faint glimmer of hope? I should point out that my Documents File showed up on my PC as a sub-folder of Documents - don't know if that makes a difference. Fingers crossed until I hear the doctor's declaration.

Was your Word Documents in it's own folder? Was this folder in the Documents folder?
In File (Windows) Explorer, go to the View tab and put a checking the box Hidden Items, to make them Viewable.
If you know the name of one of your Word documents, do a search for that one document, if you find that, the others will probably be in the same folder. .
Also, go to C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents are there any documents here? Is your Word Documents folder here? How about then sub folder Documents. You may accidentally moved it with a slip of your finger to a upper or lower folder.

    Thank you, Spunk

Hey Spunk - thanks for your helpful reply. I have managed to find a few folders from my missing doc's, but they are not showing up in one place. Something else that I can't figure out - tonight, while recreating folders in Documents, 2 of the folders disappeared. I found one, but not the other. Do you think this could be a virus of some kind?

So you have found some of the stuff the local 'gurus' couldn't? Doesn't say much for them. But where did you find the folders - if we know the path, it may shed some light...

Browse to C:\Users\YourUserName do you have any documents there? You mentioned that you have a Documents folder within your Documents folder, are your documents in that directory?
Lets put your Documents folder to it's Default Location Restore Default Location of Personal Folders in Windows 10 then we can see where your documents are.Once you know where they are, you can drag them, or copy and paste them to the proper folder you want them to be in.

Try ShadowExplorer. You may be able to find copies of it in one or more of the Shadow Copies.
It's a safe program, I've used it several times and currently have it installed.

    Worth a try.
