    Windows randomly freezing and locking up

    Hi,

    Recently my windows has started to randomly freeze and lock up. My browser will no longer be able to access the internet or search anything, file explorer will stop responding and any active applications open will also stop responding. I am able to access the start menu and restart however the restart will take about 5 minutes to complete. Once it loads back up it is perfectly fine again.

    Does anyone have any ideas what this might be caused by? I haven't updated windows. I am on v2004 W10 PRO

    Your first step , check device manager for any malfunctioning hardware.
    open a administrator cmd window
    sfc /scannow to see if there is any system file problems.

    it will take time to run

    Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    it will take time to run

    reboot and see if the problem reoccurs.

    You could also try running Reliability Monitor and see if there is anything in there pointing to an issue.

    You might want to check your windows error logs, look for anything critical.

    MrBasher, Fantail, when you make a suggestion it's always a good idea to tell the person how to accomplish what you've suggested.

    How to View Reliability History in Windows 10

    You might want to check your windows error logs, look for anything critical.
    What error logs are you talking about? Do you mean event logs in Event Viewer? If so:

    Press Window key + R, type eventvwr.msc /s and press Enter.

    @Ztruker,
    Sorry, your are correct and will endeavour to do that in the future.

    @Jarrod
    To get the Reliability Monitor (should be Reliability History, oops) just type Reliability in the search and it will apear at the top of the list.

    Sorry I understood what you meant was giving it time to see if either solution worked.

    I tried both of the commands in cmd however no corrupt files were found and my computer still has the issue.

    In the reliability monitor I have a few critical errors from shutdowns not completing properly but here are the main errors:
    "Hardware Error" and "SearchApp.exe" has stopped responding. I have uploaded the technical details for the issues.

    These issues occur when/as my computer freezes.

    Does anyone have any ideas? Still getting freezes about once every few hours. In reliability monitor, it just says "{program}.exe has stopped responding" - it's normally the SearchApp.exe

    Freezing is often Graphics card related and/or driver.
    First open Device manager >right click---Graphics Card---,select ---Disable---then click---Yes--- and ---Restart---.
    If this works,then use the same process to---Re-enable---the card
    If the problem persists,in the search box type in---dxdiag---and from the Display page,note all the driver details and download it,or a later version if available,from the maker's site only.
    If you can,then use Display Driver Uninstaller [DDU] in Safe Mode to completely remove the existing one,then install the new version.Sometimes the driver package contains unneccessary components,which look pretty but can be pretty useless.
    What does "{program}.exe mean,is that exactly how it is displayed?
