A most annoying thing that I am getting at the moment happens when I scroll up/down a web page it suddenly disappears only to reappear as a thumbnail in the top left of screen I then have to click the thumbnail which then develops into a battle which I loose because I just have not got the patience to play this unwanted game.
what browser are you using? have you tried reset - reset settings
Sounds like you may have enabled a gesture when touch scrolling

One possibility might be this:
Swipe three fingers up Show thumbnails of your currently running apps in Task View
(albeit you mentioned 2- might be catching a 3rd, or too sensitive)
Exactly which gestures are supported can be manufacturer specific.
Best look through your touchpad options.
Many thanks to you both it is the touch pad and it is extremely sensitive even set on minimum sensitivity and I must be touching it with an extra finger or thumb. Problem solved.
There may be a sensitivity setting. However there are numerous variants of touchpad drivers and GUIs- e.g. Synaptics has at least 3. Here's one:
