    General UEFI Question

UEFI is a real pain in my butt. I've done extensive reading. I understand (I think) secure boot. I've successfully made a UEFI boot usb windows install disk. I know how to get to access UEFI interface through Windows 8/8.1/10. What I can't find an answer to is how to get to the UEFI interface when Windows will NOT boot. Fast boot makes timing when hitting any sort of key (f2,del,f10 etc) an impossible task. I've tried shift+power and that doesn't work. So someone please tell me how I can access UEFI to turn off secure boot or select my boot order. I have spent many hours on this and I'm about to wear out my power button.

Also, is there a way I can take a 64 bit Windows 10 recovery drive created on a bios based system and convert it to a UEFI recovery drive using Rufus.

On most motherboards, you can press a key to select which device boot from. It's usually F12. If FastBoot is a problem, turn it off.

Clear the CMOS. Also known as reset the RTC (real time clock). That's the advice from my motherboard manufacturer (Asrock).

Easy on a desktop PC (jumper or pushbutton). Usually harder on a laptop. (May have to find and unplug the CMOS backup battery, as well as removing the main battery.)

go to power options then click on "Choose what the power buttons do" and then click "change the settings
that are currently unavailable". Now you can stop fast startup

Not especially helpful if you can't boot into Windows (post #1).

You do this in the BIOS so don't need windows loaded.

to access uefi follow these instructions, turn off fast boot in the bios (you cannot access the bios normally in fast boot).

Access UEFI bios through your desktop environment:

    1. Click the Start menu and select Settings.
    2. Select Update and Security.
    3. Click Recovery.
    4. Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. The system will restart and show the Windows 10 boot menu.
    5. Select Troubleshoot.
    6. Choose Advanced options.
    7. Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
    8. Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS).
