where is index-file written to?
During indexing of a USB HDD, where is the index-file written to? Main PC or is it on the HDD, so that the index-file can be used on other PC.s?
Thanks in advance for the answer.

Hi, assuming you're referring to Windows search indexing, then you can see the index location here:
The only time I know of where a search index created on one PC is read by another seems to be when a mapped networked drive, indexed on another PC, is searched by another on that network. (This does not apply to NAS).
Bear in mind your USB drive maybe allocated a different letter when connected at another time.
Thanks for the info. I see that I disabled indexing, which does not give problems with navigating through folders and files.
One USB HDD give now problems with Windows explorer (extremely slow), but I do think that the problem is not related to indexing.
I will look further to it and possibly start a new thread.
I now believe that the problem is related to drivers or firmware. I will post a new thread in Drivers and Hardware.
