Transferring data from phone to computer

I have a Google Pixel 4XL and I know I have photos on it when I pull them up by pressing the photos button . However whenever I connect the phone to the computer it shows that the Pixel 4XL folder is empty any ideas please??

When you plug the phone in via USB, check the Notification Area for USB usage, choose the appropriate option...

Ok thanks for your reply Edwin but I cannot get that screen the nearest I can find is the setting under hotspot and tethering I have enabled USB tethering with the internet. On the first down swipe I should get that screen but all I get is the weather forecast!

Many Phones won't even show a notification, just swipe down from the top anyway...

Once I attached the phone to the computer via USB, and set it up for file access/transfer, I can see it in my list of hard drives.

I simply click on the hard drive entry for the phone to open the contents, navigate to the folder, and copy files off.

    What version of Android?

May be something like Developer Options in the phone settings.

If you post the steps you did & your Android version then it might help another forum user.
