How to add or remove icons from the "show hidden icons"

You need to create a shortcut to the Avira... .exe file and put it in your Startup folder.

The Startup folder is here:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup <---- for just your User account

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup <---- for all users

Remember: Every program you add to startup, slows your boot time just a bit more.

/e Real time is just that.. the program, w/e it is runs in real time. Depends on the program. MY paid Bitdefender automatically runs in real time. Most free versions of AV programs do not. In some programs... there is a setting for "run at startup". In some, this can also be accomplished by choosing to run the program in "real time".

There doesn't seem to be any standardization of this, which is why, we also have the option of using the startup folder.

/ee Most of this information was presented in post #2 of this topic. As Dalchina said... it may just be that you need to re-install or repair Avira. IF you are running the free version, this may or may not be possible.

ALL antivirus programs I have ever run (paid or free) automatically have an icon already in the System Tray (Notification Area), at startup.

im confused now..real time? what do you mean? and what should i do? try to repair avira? add avira manually to my startup folder? or run avira in real time?

Like I said... ALL antivirus programs I have ever run, automatically placed an icon in the System tray. For you to be able to put that icon in the hidden section, it MUST be in the System Tray. FIRST, I would do as Dalchina said...try to repair or re-install Avira.

IF doing that, still doesn't place an icon in the System Tray... THEN you could try the Startup folder. W/e you troubleshoot a problem, always start at the most basic solution... in this case, that would be fixing Avira.

Once you have the icon in the System tray, you can then drag and drop it to the hidden section.
IF it doesn't stay there after reboot, then the only other thing you can do is use the Startup folder.

You already KNOW that once the program is "running" it stays in the hidden section, so the best solution is to make sure that after reboot, the Avira program IS running...aka, already in the System Tray.

tl;dr...

1. Try to fix Avira first. (repair and/or re-install)
2. IF after fixing Avira it still doesn't run in System Tray by itself... use the Startup folder to make it do so.

ok how do i repair avira?
i guess i should open file location for avira, but then what?
i see no repair option when i right-click it

Just uninstall it....then re-install it.

yeah maybe after vaccation. this seems deep and i dont wanna spend my time on this right now.

I know this is an older post but in case you’ve got an alert on it or if anyone else is looking for a solution…

I’m wondering if you’re going to the right area for the startup options. You should be seeing a lot more than only the CC Cleaner there.

In Windows 10, this is where you go to turn your Avira (or any program) to run at startup:

Right click on Start icon

Click on Settings

Click on Apps

Click Startup in the left panel.

You will see a list of programs. (Your Avira should be in the list, along with a lot of other programs.)

Click the little button to the right of the program name to "On" or "Off" (The programs you put On will then show up in Hidden Icons. You may have to reboot the first time.)
