Maybe I misunderstand... I thought you were suggesting installing 2004. If just installing a fresh a version... That has actually been done once before I ever started threads about this issue. That time I installed everything fresh, from the OS to ask Apollo's.

Then it was done again when you guided me to do the specific 1903 version from the other thread we were conversing in.

Or am I misunderstand the intent?

In the prior thread which was performed?

    a) in place upgrade repair
    b) clean install

    Were drivers reinstalled?
    Were applications reinstalled?

Now that I think of it, the prior thread was an in-place upgrade / repair (you provided links to the very same version to use). Before opening that thread it was a complete wipe, fresh install of everything (data has always been on a separate drive), fresh app instalsl, Windows Updates performed, etc.

It's beginning to feel like I just need to live with it until it totally fails. So at this point I've done many tests, with your help, more tests from the perspective of sleep problems with @dalchina help, a complete fresh install, an in-place upgrade. Today I downloaded fresh HP diag utilities (which I had not downloaded since the in-place repair), and run Intel driver updates (only updated on 1).

So having thought through it some, I feel like I've bothered you folks enough. After all that, I'm very skeptical we'll figure anything out. It's really odd.

See what happens when the computer is used in safe mode with networking for several days:

Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10

    Been busy, and away.

Just tried to go into safe mode with networking. I tried twice...selecte 5. Safe Mode with Networking. But when it boots, it does not load networking.

If I click on the lower right corner icon, it shows Airplane Mode square. Doesn't say if it is on or off. Doesn't indicate anything if I clicke the Airplane button.

Went into Networking Status and tried to add a network. It says it does not find any networking hardware...something to that effect.

I don't know if this is related to my problem or not. It is strange. In the past, I have gone into Safe mode with networking...although it's been quite a while.

First...I did open a thread on the Safe Mode issue here. It didn't resolve, and ended up down a long with another person fighting similar issue. I the end, it seems that is an issue that is there on many computers, and not there on just as many.

So regarding the issue of this thread, I finally gave up. My modus of operation became "shutdown at night rather than sleep. Manually perform Windows Updates during the day". My updating has been performing while i work on other things, and on occasion of course, it would require a reboot.

And today a new interesting twist...

So today, while it was installing the downloaded updates, I plugged the laptop in, and went to do some exercise. Was away from it an hour or so.

When I came to the computer, it was sitting there with screen open, with a black screen, and still running. Turns out it was locked up. Would not bring back a display. I closed to screen to see if it would go to sleep. It did not.

So, I hard shut down, and rebooted. It came up with the blue screen "Installing updates". It did that a bit, and rebooted automatically. Then it came up loading updates again, and booted up fine.

So, it seems that issues is related to the screen being in a dark state and for some reason that interrupting the full update process, not allowing reboots.

Run the computer for a week to generate new logs post update.
Report back if there are any problems.
New logs can then be scanned for significant problems
