Time Zone Setting is not retained

Windows 10 Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363


I go to Control Panel, Date and Time, I change the Time Zone setting to Central America (I'm presently in Costa Rica), I click on Apply and the click on OK. The setting changes and the correct time appears in the lower right of the screen. I later sleep the computer or power off. When I return the time zone has changed to Santiago, Chile and reads incorrectly by a factor of two hours. I have tried to reset the time zone repeatedly with the same result each time. Que pasa? Thank you for any help.

Try this:

Go to Start > Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time. Turn OFF the option to set the time zone automatically.

After doing this, manually change the time zone again if you should need to do so.

Hopefully, that will be the last time you need to do this.

Also, I could swear that I read something about a bug related to a time zone issue in South America having just been fixed. Let me see if I can find that. If I do, I will post back here again.

Thank you. Who knew those automatic settings were present. Well, you knew. They are now changed to manual. I will observe for a few days and then hopefully mark as solved. Gracias.

I had to turn Auto Time Zone OFF, then manually set the correct time zone, then turn Auto Time Zone... back ON.
That was the only way I could get my clock to quit jumping time zones.

I was wrong. What I had seen was an update to DST time in Morocco that was included in the May patch Tuesday updates. So my advice above still holds. Try that and let us know if it helps.

One more small detail, if I may. You noted that you are on build 18363, but that is only a partial build number. Take a look at the screenshot below. On my system you will see that I am on base build 19041 because I am running Windows 10 version 2004. However, note that the full build in my case is 19041.329. The number before the period indicates the base version (18363 is Windows 10 1909 or 19H2) but the number after the period let's us know what cumulative update you have installed.

It's a small thing but helps us better understand more precisely what updates you have installed.

Thanks to all. This morning the computer remained in the correct time zone with the correct time. A small but satisfying pleasure. I will look into my correct build number so thank you for that.
