That recommendation dates back to Bedrock days when HDDs were a lot smaller and drives became much more fragmented. The idea of using largest drive was that drive was probably the least fragmented.
This just shows most of the stuff on the web is years (decades even) behind the times.
Even advice on SSDs is usually based around early gen 1 SSDs which were not as write resilient as nowadays.
Indirectly, the problem is due to the fact that now there are no real issues with most modern SSDs, so nobody posts any modern advice on web.
As a result, people only see outdated advice.
