    Desktop Win 10

I long had a Desktop Folder shortcut on my Desktop as an icon. It was quite handy in providing a list-type grouping of the Desktop contents that eased any needed manipulation. However, I somehow lost it and can't reconstruct the procedure so I'm pleading for some help
    .
I've tried copying the folder and inserting it in a "new folder" on the Desktop, That seems straightforward but the system won't let it complete.

I'd be grateful for any helpful guidance.

Browse to C:\Users\YourUserName\Desktop insert the folder here. If that fails, right click the folder and choose New/Shortcut. and save that shortcut here.

Do you mean you had a shortcut to your desktop on the desktop?
Rt click and drag Desktop to an empty space on the desktop, release and click 'Create shortcut'.

Best not keep critical items on the desktop. Keep personal data off C: as far as you can so - e.g.- a clean install of the O/S doesn't affect your data.

Open File Explorer at This PC. Right-click on Desktop and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)

If you drag desktop folder to your desktop, it will create a shortcut.

Then there's the right-click of the Taskbar and click Toolbars then Desktop, gives a list of things on the Desktop when clicking the small double-arrow on the right end of the word Desktop on the Taskbar.
