2004 Fails Multiple Times
2004 has installed fine on all my other computers yet on a two year old laptop it has failed multiple times. Both through MCT and WU. Seems to be at the second boot or whatever, then it rolls back.

Hi,
Have you tried disabling secure boot and see if that helps
I usually mount the iso without internet connection and never fails.

No idea what that is. All I know is this computer has updated fine in the past and all my others took 2004, even a 10+ year old machines.
Still waiting for the rollback to complete. Assuming I get my computer back I can't think of anything else to do so not sure I will do anything more.

Secure Boot is a setting in your BIOS. It is there to prevent unauthorized persons or apps from trying to boot into your system from something external, like a thumb drive or DVD. In some cases, if ON, it can mess up that second phase boot in the Working on Updates phase. Usually, not always, it will occur somewhere around the 80% mark, spinning dots forever, then the dreaded "Reverting Changes Made To Your System". Roll-back.
May have been fine on previous updates but the Setup.exe and code this time for 2004 is less tolerant or flaky. Won't hurt to turn it off and try.

Nope, thats the 10+ year old desktop that upgraded after a bit of an issue.
This is a 2 year old Acer laptop. Aspire 5 A515-51-75UY. It has done all other upgrades fine. Its a bare bones machine like all of mine. No externals, other than a few maintenance programs and browsers it has literally nothing else on it.
I suppose I will try again in a few weeks but after that I guess I just wait until the next one. I am not comfortable changing BIOS, etc. That should not need to be done to get an update MS has pushed to my computer.

Yeah in a perfect world that would be the case
You could try this always works for me
Create a system image on a removable hard drive and after disconnect it.
Use the media creation tool and create the 2004 iso.
Disconnect from the internet
Open the iso and right click setup.exe and use run as administrator
Keep personal settings and personal files that is a default selection and wait.

Update:
Last month computer X failed several times.while upgrading to 2004. I waited and watched the 2004 update come and go and come back in WU so decided to try and update again. This time it apparently worked.
Mark this one solved.
