Notepad not saving to desktop or any of my hard drives

I have notepad/text files saved on my Win 10 Pro Desktop, I have them in my "C" drive as well as other drives. I don't do this often, but I tried today and I tried all the easily found fixes (Controlled Folder Access-OFF). I would appreciate some help on this. It isn't life threatening but it annoys me. Win 10 has not been kind to me. My Printer is very intermittent in its operation. Sometimes it prints, sometimes it ignores me.

You should be able to change that to wherever you want it and notepad should remember that and use it in the future, at least that's how it works for me.

This problem is a recent one. I have used Notepad and saved to my desktop many times in the past. My Address bar reads : This PC>Desktop as it has from the very first time I used it. Now it wont save anywhere. Thanks for trying.
