Mouse cursor gets pixelated and may vanish, upon changing pointer size

I use multiple monitors and needed to increase the size of the mouse pointer to better find the whereabouts of the mouse. Recently, I keep observing my mouse pointer getting pixelated across all its possible modes: be it a pointer, a capital-I shaped thing when I am in a text field, or a sandglass icon when it is waiting on something.) More recently, the mouse pointer will vanish completely should I stop moving the mouse (using a Thinkpad Trackpoint keyboard with its "red dot").

Both the problems will be "resolved", temporarily, should I change the size of the pointer via the ms-settings:easeofaccess-MousePointer setting page: I will get a sharp-looking pointer that does not vanish. I will upload a screenshot of the pixelated pointer should I observe it again. For now, a temporary solution is to change the pointer size when things go wrong manually.

My windows version is 2004, Build 19041.329. The problem, as I may recall vaguely, can be specific to this Windows version. I have also tried to re-install the driver for my graphic cards (I have two cards, GTX 970 and 1050, for 6 external monitors), which did not help.

PS: many thanks to Shawn Brink who posted the List of Shortcuts to Directly Open Pages in Settings in Windows 10. I can quickly go and change the size of the mouse pointer with one command :)

    Hi!

    Welcome to Windows Ten Forums!

    Have you tried this?

    1) Navigate to Start > Settings > Devices.
    2) Click on Mouse.
    3) In the right pane, click on Additional Mouse Options.
    4) Under Pointer tab, Click on Use Default.
    5) Click on Apply and OK.

See if it resolves the problem.

Looks good! I found my previous "Scheme" setting for Pointers was "None". Maybe this is why the pointer was pixelated and, sometimes, vanishing while not moving?

For now, the problem goes away. I Will update here if it shall ever come back. Let's consider it as being solved for now.

I use the setting that draws a large shrinking circle around the mouse pointer when I press the Ctrl key. Never a problem finding it.

Thank you for the tip with triggering the shrinking circle with the CTRL key. It interacted with my AutoHotKey script in unexpected ways: while triggering Win + XX shortcuts, upon releasing the Win-key, the circle is also drawn around the mouse cursor. On the good side, the ctrl+w combination does not trigger any shrinking circles, which is much appreciated.

I am experimenting with the triggering condition in this AutoHotkey script. It has interesting features where a different colored ripple can be drawn upon left-click, right-click of the mouse, as well as pressing (actually, releasing) the Ctrl key. Ideally, I prefer to only see the trace/ripple/shrinking circle only upon double-clicking ctrl key. This should be doable through Autohotkey, and I will update if I find such solution.

I only see the circle when I release Ctrl so if I press it and any other key it doesn't show, so I hardly notice it unless I'm looking for it specifically.

I find specifying a Scheme for Pointers help me recover a vanishing mouse pointer on another laptop. This tip is super handy :) [This other laptop is running Windows 10 Version 1903, OS Build 18362.900. Same symptom: mouse cursor shall vanish while not in motion. The Scheme option in Pointers tab was "None" before I reset it to the proper default scheme.
