possible to show folder SIZE in details view?

Feels crazy that this doesn't happen automatically, but it doesn't seem to in ANY version of windows. When I look at the details view, the size column is empty for folders. Of course if I right click the folder and choose "properties", a dialog box will show me the total of the folders contents. Is there any trick or add on that will enable all the folder sizes to simply display in a details view?

You need third party software to display folder sizes.

Here's one portable app. One of many.

Explorer++ - A small and fast file manager for Windows

I just use third party softwares for folder size. Not specifically Explorer++ but that one works okay.

I'm not sure I buy the writers explanation about the performance hit, if the folder sizes were displayed. Yes, across LAN/WAN scenarios its true for sure. But on the local machine, its reasonable to assume there could be a "dirty" bit set somewhere in a spare location within the disk file structure. I'm just suggesting that most folders in a directory would not have changed size and could be used to show that a current, or last calculated size has changed. But anyway, it is what it is, and I appreciate the solution offered. I'm starting to pile up a number of "shells" like this to make various aspects of windows be the OS I personally want, rather than what MS intends.

There were ways of adding it back in windows 7 and Vista. I'm not sure about adding it to Windows 10.

You can use any number of third party softwares to view folder sizes if you want to.

I just run third party utilities if I want to check for unusually large folders.

Here's one that displays a pop up when navigating directories in Explorer:

Runs at all times unless you configue otherwise.

Personally I don't find having the size of every folder displayed at all times very useful.

It came up because I've been saving raw TS_VIDEO folders of ripped DVDs. I've not decided yet what conversion software I want to use on them to create simple files, and I'm aware that whole TS_VIDEO folders take up even more room than a simple MPEG conversion. But I have a lot of them on a separate big HD, and so for now it would be nice to be able to get a rough idea how much space each folder is taking up.

You could use any number of free softwares including the one linked above which shows sizes in a pop up window when navigating explorer.

I've got quite a few apps installed that show folder size - just not in explorer.

    Here's another:

    Download Xinorbis - MajorGeeks
