Searching within Settings fails to find anything.

When I go into the Windows 10 Settings page and use the search box to find a particular setting I'm looking for it returns nothing, even for items I know are there. What could be causing this?

There are about 13 categories in "Windows Settings" in Windows 10 Version 2004.
Which particular setting are you looking for?

It doesn't matter which one I search for search finds nothing. I have always just entered 'default' in the past to find the place for default browser setting for example but it now finds nothing. Entering 'Phone', an entry on the main page brings up nothing. Whatever search term I enter finds zilch.

After trying DISM and scannow to no effect I did an overnight in-place refresh of Windows 10 from my repair CD which restored the search function.

Could either have been Windows search being disabled, or certain locations in Indexing Options missing.

Search locations were correct as far as I can see (C:\) and it appeared to be working.
