Problem with Program Files folder localization

Hi, today I noticed that my Program Files is not in my native language anymore. The x86 one is fine. The desktop.ini of the folder looks fine:

    Code:
    [.ShellClassInfo]
    LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21781
I tried changing Windows to french and english and then back to my native language (spanish) but the folder remains in english.

I ran sfc /scannow and it found no issues.

Any other ideas to try? Thanks in advance.

    Windows 1909 x64.

    Hi.

    Could you try this?

Add, Remove, and Change Display Language in Windows 10

    Please post back.

    Gracias!

    1. Is there any chance the computer - the subject of the apparent problem with program files instead of
    Archivos de programa - name
    C:\Archivos de programa - path
is synced to another windows 10 device - where the settings are in English

    2. I have been reading one of your earlier threads here
BSOD [APC_INDEX_MISMATCH] after some changes on the pc

    3. I think that is on the same computer as the present topic
I do not know if you still have
    ESET
    AVG Tune UP
    Malwarebytes
    Windows Defender
I have ESET, MalwareBytes and Windows Defender
and you also had IOBit software

    4. In addition to that you changed the language to English to assist with the logs requested as they could not be read in Spanish

    5. PLEASE DO NOT BE OFFENDED, but I can assure you, with 100% certainty, that although on that previous thread you said
    in respect of IOBit software
I have had this for ages and it hasn't give any problem, but is now deleted anyway.
and in regard to the AV programs
Again, I have always have these apps. AVG is not an AV, it is the older TuneUp. I will disable MalwareBytes for now
    .

    6. IF you still have MORE than one active AV then with the possible exception of malwarebytes and Defender, used together, you will encounter all manner of problems, including a lessening of active protection, as generally speaking, two active AV programs tend to fight against each other.

    7. MORE to the point it is quite possible that one of these AV programs is now actually preventing the language change.

    8. Finally I do appreciate that you said on that earlier thread
I'm a technician myself and I seriously doubt these errors are caused by apps I have had for years.
and whilst I acknowledge your absolute right to your opinion, (el derecho absoluto a tu opinion)
I personally cannot agree with it, as explained above.

My PC is not synced, not that I'm aware of, and I guess the sync would be with a machine also in my language.

To be honest I don't remember how did I fix that, but I can assure you it wasn't by removing any of those apps.

I, of course, also acknowledge your absolute right to your opinion, but I still think it has little to nothing to do with apps, or at least the combination of them. As I said on that post (that I didn't even remember hehe), I've never had a problem with that combination. Today I checked with my father, that also has ESET + MalwareBytes + TuneUp (NOT an AV) with the same versions and he doesn't have that problem. Funny thing is that, in another laptop of mine with no ESET but MalwareBytes (old version) and AVG (same version) the problem exists. So, given that the last update of TuneUp has proven bugs (unrelated to mine, or at least that's what it seems), I will try to completely uninstall it and check.

In any case, I still think it has nothing to do with combinations. Of course the problem may come from some app.

In the meantime, I would like to know more of the "translating" process. Does it involve anything else more than the ini file? Maybe a registry key? A specific permission? This way I may be able to find the culprit, how knows.

    Thanks in advance.

    @eXtremeDevil -

Do you have a working backup of your system?

Perhaps you can strip the .INI file off a previous working backup and copy it over.
Just rename the current INI file to desktopini.bak, for example.

I'll try but, since the content is the same, where do you think the difference would be?

    Thanks!

I will leave the problem with you.
I ask you NOT to take that the wrong way, but if you simply decline to even try following the advice, there is little point in me carrying on.
I have NO idea with 100% certainty if the problem is the two or three protection apps or the TuneUp or the IOBit - however as I said it MAYBE.

    Good luck with.

I have another problem with the laptop I mentioned before, once I solve that I will remove TuneUp from there. I DON'T have eigher ESET or IOBit there so, if the problem persists, will take it from there.

I had to do an inplace upgrade on the laptop, so it is no longer a testing option. What do you suggent? Uninstalling AVG? MalwareBytes? Both?

    Thanks.

OK, solved it by running this:

    Code:
    attrib +r C:\Program Files
I don't understand why though, as if I'm not wrong, that only means to give read permissions to the folder, right?

No it does not it sets - the read ONLY attribute, rather than giving read permissions

An attribute that it should have right? I'm having trouble understanding how NOT having "read only" attrib can break the localization...
