    Unable to Open Image Files

I have some .jpg files, from 2007, that I was able to open without problems. I last opened them in 2017 but have just tried to open them (yesterday), with both Paint and Paintshop Pro (I even tried Irfanview), and I get the message that the file is unsupported. Anyone any idea what could have changed recently to cause this?

Hi, can you open more recent ones normally, and can you upload one?

Yes , I can open other, recent, files .
I've tried uploading a file but get the message that it isn't a valid image file!

Sorry, can't see where to click there to start downloading it. Try zipping it and uploading the zip file as an attachment (Go Advanced, Paperclip icon).

I downloaded that and unpacked it.

Can't view it. "file format not supported".

It's not valid. Should say 'JFIF'

    Here's a valid one:

Given the clue in the above, try opening it with VLC player. You may be surprised.

That is NOT a .jpg file - it is a video! Rename it as victor pickett1_2.jpg.mp4 and you can play it in any video player.

Thanks to dalchina, I managed to open the file (using VLC player) and saw the video clip, but have no idea how it got there. This, and the associated 2nd file, are both copies of hand written documents and shouldn't contain video clips. !!!

Now all you've got to work out is who's been spying or playing tricks...

(Oh, and where the real documents went...)
