Windows is detecting the wrong time zone. What's wrong?

    Hi,

I'm normally in Texas but I have been in Panama for a few weeks which is on the same time zone as Texas. Now I am back in Texas (central time) For some reason now, windows thinks im in Pacific time if I let it set time zone automatically. I have location permission on so I don't understand why it is confused about my locations. I have to set the time zone manually. This also affects the weather app which thinks I am in San Francisco! I am on Win10 Home 1909.

Turn the auto detect time zone OFF. Manually set the correct time zone, then turn the auto detect time zones back ON.

I had the same issue... and that cured it.

/edit I know it doesn't make intuitive sense, but it works.

OK, I tried that and it seems to have worked but yesterday i did this and every time I turned on auto detect, it went back to pacific but now its working so I attribute it to your magic touch. Thanks!

It drove me crazy for a few days.

Like I said, it's not really intuitive. By themselves, neither auto or manual works. But both together, do work.

Why is it that way? Who knows.

I had to mark it unsolved again because I just restarted after installing the latest cumulative update to Win 1909 and I am back in the same situation. If I say to set time zone automatically, it switches me to Pacific time, so I have to disable automatic time zone and manually set it to Central time. I tried it a couple of times without success. I'm not sure how it determines my location actually? Is it from the WiFi network somehow? Any ideas?

Lacking GPS, which desktops typically do not have, Windows must resort to less reliable methods. Most likely it is using one of the Internet location services which are not fully reliable. They use various methods, such as WiFi access point and IP address. Errors like this can happen, sometimes worse.

I also just did the Cumulative Update for 1909. My time zone setting hasn't changed.
All I can tell you about my system is that I use a wired connection for internet.
