To delete you need to run disk clean after its first run tick remove system files
What reason do you need to make a copy of it? It's mostly a backup of the previous version of Windows plus your personal files which I hope you backed up anyway.
Not sure why you want to copy it - if you wanted to 'Go back to previous build' after the 10 days expiry- when it would be deleted anyway- I have no idea if copying it back would still let you do that. I rather doubt it..
Just considering permissions issues- you can copy it if you
- boot to a command prompt and then copy it
- boot from a live boot disk and then copy it
Why not just make a Macrium image and keep that ?
The best and most secure method is as has been mentioned a solid backup routine, unfortunately you have missed the time frame for this as it should be performed Prior to the upgrade, so you can restore to a complete pre-upgrade state.at any future time
If you just need to clear the used space for a short time, (longest usable is 10 Days after install), you can simply run Explorer.exe, (Windows File Manager) using the "run as Admin" option, which elevates the normal admin account to a full admin , Although as this, (the nnnn.old folder),is a system folder you may need to unhide and log in as the "Hidden Administrator"
Yes, safest to update your disk image before, then start a fresh set when an upgrade has been successfully completed.
Base (full) image + differential images periodically thereafter e.g. or whatever mix you like.
Why a new base image? Because so much has changed.
I have deleted the old file and did not bother to copy it,, thanks for your advice .
