Lost photos... really need to try to find them.

Hello, I'm Isabelle, new to this forum. For years I try to get by using forums and personal research, but there I have a big problem and can not find the info.

I have a LENOVO PC, years ago, I used Picasa 3 to edit my photos as a wedding planner. In my computer, I also have other files with the same name as the files in Picasa.

Wanting to add the 3 photos in my 2015-06 picasa folder in that of my computer, also called 2015-06 and which contained a hundred very valuable photos, I made a bad manipulation, and replaced the 100 by the 3. I couldn't go back and get my 100 photos back. Are they still on my hard drive and if so, how can I get them back ???

Have you check the Recycle Bin? If they are there rename the folder with the 3 photos then try to do a restore.

How did you take the photos if you used a phone then they may be backed up on Google photos. As Google lets you backup unlimited photos to Google using backup sync it's worth doing for the future and it's free

Reply to 1st post : Thank you so much for your reply. I didn't realize I had written my post in french, which didnt quite translate in English correctly.
I have checked my recycle bin, nothing. What happened is that both picasa and my pc have the same folder name 2015-06. When wanting to add the 3 pictures from Picasa into my other picture folder on my PC, a window popped up which gave me 2 options, Replace or Ignore, and by mistake clicked Replace. It went so quickly that I couldnt stop the process. End result is that my 100+ pics have been replaced by the other 3. Are they somewhere on the hard drive ?? if yes, how can I retrieve them ?

Reply to 2nd post : Sadly they are not in google photos. I didnt know that picasa was giving us the option to upload everything to googlephotos a couple of years ago, and when trying yesterday, it is not allowing me to do so... so by reading my reply in the paragraph above, can it help you searching for other ideas ?

Hi, I understand the photos you've lost are older. Having been removed from the file system, the space on disk they occupied has been released - free to be written over by new files.

If they are on your system disk and you have no backups, then the more you use the disk, the greater the probability they will be overwritten.

As they are not in the recycle bin, standard advice would be to stop using that disk IMMEDIATELY and use e.g. a live boot disk to boot your PC, and use a recovery program in the hope you might retrieve some.

    E.g. Kyhi's boot disk, Recuva.

Thank you Dalchina. Wow.... this is very sad.... all my files were backed up on a passport but plugging in the passport into my PC to retrieve them, it also showed me the 3 pictures Picasa. I am still searching for the other folder called 2015-06. Hopefully I can... I appreciate your feedback.

all my files were backed up on a passport
As your photos were on an external disk, then do not write to it-- download and run Recuva (free) and see if its scan detects them on that disk.

There are I think two scans, basic and deeper.

They should indicate the quality of the file you can recover. (= how much has been overwritten)

Recuva - The Portable Freeware Collection
This is a portable version- no installation. You could put this on a flash disk and run it from that if you wish.
