Broken Jump Lists after upgrading to 2004

Hi, I am suddenly facing issues with the Jump Lists after upgrading to version 2004. For some reason, when I try to access recent files (that have not been moved), Windows thinks that the file is not there. This happens randomly to some files. I've attached an example of such an issue with using the Jump Lists for Notepad++. Anyone know a solution to this?

    Hello mate,

This can happen when a recent item is no longer available for whatever reason. For example, it has been deleted, or source drive letter changed.

If you like, you could toggle off and on Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar and in File Explorer Quick Access in option one below to clear and reset recent items.

I'm having an issue precisely because the files are still at exactly the same locations. It doesn't make sense at all since the preview of the file location that pops up on mouse hover actually points to the correct location for the file, yet clicking it doesn't open.

Are these files by chance on a network, external drive, or removable drive that is currently offline or turned off?

If not, then clearing your recent items to reset them is about all you can do. This will have the recent items rebuild as you open the files again, and hopefully not get this error message again.

No they are local. I have tried turning off Jump Lists and back on again. The file history is gone but the first entry to pop up after some use already says file not found.

    Odd.

Any issues opening the unavailable file from directly within the app?

Also, after upgrading to 2004, did you do an sfc /scannow?

I had a similar problem with Jump Lists (not with 2004, I'm holding off on that for a bit) because I'd partitioned my SSD and relocated Documents folders etc to the newly created D: drive. Even though I'd followed the tutorials here, Windows threw a strop. Clearing the lists and rebuilding them resolved the issue.

Yes, just did an sfc /scannow. No issues. Clearing the lists and re-enabling them did nothing. Seems like a Windows bug? Some files under the same application would have no issues opening again, but others just randomly don't work.

I've just managed to break my Jump lists, but for a different reason.

I wanted to test compatibility with Excel 2003, so installed it (Excel only) recently alongside my main Office (2007)
I think that installing 2003 has broken the Win 10 jump lists

    Since installing 2003,
Word 2007 behaves normally - I open a doc from years ago, and it appears at the top of the Word jump list
On Excel 2007 ONLY, if I open any workbook it no longer shows as a Recent, even when currently loaded and in use

Is there a Jump lists Troubleshooter tool I wonder?
Or do I need an in-place re-install of Windows?

I really rely on those jump lists, - my memory ain't that good these days
