Numbers instead of letters on HP laptop and Vice Versa.

I have had to plug in a keyboard because my windows 10 Laptop keyboard is typing numbers instead of letters and vice versa, I have tried the 'Shift Key and Ctrl' even 'Function and Number lock' its still the same, would a restore work?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, that's odd. Do you have a Numlock key, or have you made changes to language or choice of keyboard language?

    See some ideas here:
Windows 10 keyboard types the wrong characters [SIMPLEST SOLUTIONS]

History: (so often omitted by posters)
    - when did this start happening?
    - do you think this is related to and update, installation, uninstallation or some other change?
see your Update History- is there anything there (including Drivers) whose date matches when this began?

    What is your laptop model?

The forum prompted you when you wrote your post for your build number so we don't have to keep asking, which is...

If the problem occurred recently and you have a System Restore point created before that, that would be an obvious thing to try using.

Hi there, it is a HP laptop, it only happened a day ago, I tried a system restore but after that on the screen it said something about it hadn't done it, so I did it again and it took ages, but my keyboard is the same and a 'Touch Screen Keyboard' thing keeps coming up on the bottom right of the screen next to date and time, even though I disabled it, my laptop does have a number lock, I will show you what happens if I type your screen name dalchina on the Laptop keyboard...... dcazl.cjm7u8inaz

Is this the on-screen keyboard you are seeing? Screenshots (pictures) can help..
Turn On or Off On-Screen Keyboard in Windows 10
    - and how to disable it.

Again, have a look at your Update History in Settings; is there an update there or in the drivers at the bottom of the list around the date this started happening?

I suppose you might just have a keyboard fault..

Try booting to Safe Mode. (Tutorial available if needed).

How does your laptop keyboard then behave?

    Drivers ok ?

Any chance liquid or food crumbs may have entered the keyboard ? Had a similar situation caused by liquid. It doesn't take much, only a few drops.

Carefully remove the keyboard and check the connections. Normally info on YouTube or other instructions on the 'net on how to remove.

If you have to replace the keyboard, EBay has good deals (my experience).

No liquids or food, but, I've just thought, I suffer terribly with Psoriasis of the hands, this time round I had creams and tablets, I did have a really bad time with skin flakes which can't be helped with skin problems, maybe I didn't see them go under keys as I brushed it down, I cannot remove the keys myself to clean, I know it is a simple job, but now because I'm almost blind, I don't want to remove anything in case I break it, so what I'll do is continue using the USB keyboard and then after Lock down and the PC shop opens I will ask them to do it for me, warning them what may lurk under there of course, thank you very much to both of you dalchina and pericles, as this seems like the problem and I have tried everything including restores etc I will close the thread, thank you.

Before you do- do try Safe Mode as I mentioned above. That could help to prove if it is a keyboard problem. Sorry to hear of your difficulties.
