Fresh W10 install, system reserved partition on unused 2nd disk

    Hi guys,

I have 2 SSDs in my machine, a 1TB one and an older 128GB one. When I reinstalled Windows 10 today I installed it on the larger 1TB drive with the intention of removing the smaller one completely from the system since it's old etc. I used the diskpart tool to "clean" both drives of all partitions, then told the installer to install Windows into the unallocated space on the 1TB drive. I have everything up and running after reinstalling all my software etc, but I had a look in Disk Management and it shows a small 50MB system reserved partition on the smaller 128GB drive - which was unexpected! Now, am I ok to still just remove the 128GB drive? Why did Windows put a partition onto this drive even though I told it not to? Here is a screenshot of the Disk Management tool to illustrate:

    Thanks for any help!

Hi, it is sometimes recommended to only have the one disk installed if there is space on others when installing Windows.

You should be able to move the SR partition:

Thanks, I used the AOMEI Partition Assistant to move the system reserved partition. Seems to be OK after removing the smaller drive.

If you want a very quick fix without creating a new system reserved partition on disk 0, run the following commands in a command prompt with admin privileges:
    Code:
    diskpart
    Select disk 0
    Select part 1
    Active
    Exit
    Bcdboot C:\Windows /s C: /f BIOS
    Exit
If all of the above commands complete successfully, then you can remove the second SSD.
