Ok, I reinstalled the program and then uninstalled using Iobit Uninstaller which removed all the traces. The problem is still there. One thing I did notice however, when I had 'Tabbed Explorer' enabled in the settings, the search worked fine, but I don't like the layout of it.
I am/was using version 8.14.3. I really am running out of options

If you had enabled System Restore and created a restore point before installing it and been able to restore using that, that should have eliminated it.
Not all uninstallers are created equal. You might repeat that using a better known one. Revo is perhaps the best known.
Depends what's causing the problem too.
