    Reset WIN10 SERVICES ?

Hello. Ive recently acquired / bought a "new" Pc from a retail store - WIN10.

    WIN10 HOME. Version 10.0.17763 build 17763

    64 bit system

my internet speed is VERY fast - 90-100 MBPS speed (i can watch 5 movies at once with no problems.. though i'm only watching 1 TV show now, & i dont have 5 devices)

HOWEVER my new win10 PC is VERY slow.

    1) put a search term in the http bar at the top of the browser - this goes to google search
    2) I wait... wait... wait..
    3) i get up, go to the front door - look outside
    4) Pc is STILL loading up the google search page (blank screen now)
    5) I go to the kitchen, get a drink
    6) I come back to the PC/lounge - get fly spray & try & unsuccessfully kill a bothersome pest

    Google is STILL loading

    7) I go to the loo.. Come back & now the page is "nearly" loaded - but still finishing off. (after 5-10 minutes).

Im looking at the TASK MANAGER & see dozens/dozens of 'services'..

QUESTION: Is there a quick way to "reset" the services to remove them all, except the bare minimum to make the PC work ?

and then - ASK me - if i want to add more services - EG - for processes that i want/need.. Im guessing that 1 or more of the services is making the PC slow.

EDIT: Ive found this thread & exported a file with all my services. Export List of Running and Stopped Services in Windows

Will this be useful ? I can post it here but its very long...

EDIT 2:- Batch Scripts / Programs.

Ive run the batch programme - Find ANY Problem Devices . . . - No problems found.

The fact that there are lots of services won't in itself make your PC slow.
Please don't start hacking and chopping- you will end up coming here asking for help.

There are several possible factors here:

    1. Internet response. What DNS is used- is it slow or fast? Is it the same as the one used on your other PC
Yesterday I suddenly find sites weren't loading - ran a check on DNS's and half of them were, for a period, unavailable. I used DNSjumper (free- Google it) to scan these and choose the fastest.

    2. Resource usage
When your PC is nominally idle, is there significant CPU usage or disk usage? There shouldn't be. E.g. 3 mins after logging in and starting nothing but your task manager.

    3. Do you have plenty of free space on C: ?

I suspect what you're experiencing is to do with your internet configuration, not your PC speed.

Try copying a large file back to the same disk on both PCs. Does that take about the same time?

    4. Given that it's a shop PC, it may be loaded with utilities and trialware, possibly security software you don't need.
Hopefully none of this is actually slowing it significantly.

Intriguing that you can watch 5 films at the same time ...

Its the same ISP / service. & wifi (though this PC is connected by HDMI cable instead of wifi - connected to my wifi box).

My old PC is disconnected (not enough room on my desk). My new PC has a 2nd screen (connected by HDMI to my 1st/main
    - new PC)

What information do you need (with instructions) to get you more information about the above ?

This is a brand new PC - I got it on thursday & it was installed by one of the shop staff (Ive got physical disability & im a programmer, but not much of a physical nuts-bolts PC fixer).

after work on Thursday (i work at home on works laptop) I booted up my new PC & put the Task manager *ONLY* on - nothing else. It took 10 minutes for the disk drive and CPU to go under 80%. It frequently jumped up to 100% at stages and i hadnt even asked it to do anything yet.

The example i said in my initial message (Google taking 10+ minutes) happened today - Saturday NZDT.

    C drive - Used 46,717,702,144 bytes
    FREE - 952,883,503,104 bytes.

Using a speedtest app (on my actual PC) - Im running at 104 Mbps. Fast. My wifi TV is connected by wifi - to the same router - & i can watch movies fine.

I dont have 2 computers to copy files- Just one (but now with 2 screens). Old computer not plugged in or connected

I contacted the Netflix & their (unknowledgable) staff wasnt too quick to know what i was asking, I eventually found i needed 2-3 Mbps to watch a movie on Netflix. As my spreed is a lot higher than that, i can in theory watch multiple movies at once (if we ignore the limitations of Netflix to watch 1 movie at the same time)

How do i find out what trialware is installed & how to remove them ?

    Thanks.

You can change your DNS independently of that.
Try DNSjumper - it shows you which you're using (check it's the same on both PCs) and lets you scan for the fastest.

    Rather a long time.

Please try a clean boot (Google that or see tutorial here if unsure) then compare how long resource use takes to settle, then post a screenshot.

Doesn't say anything about the DNS response time to look up a URL.

You're also dependent on how busy are the server from which you're loading a page and any sites from which it requests data.

Trialware and utilties etc: Any programs installed by your manufacturer will be extra to those provided with a default clean Windows installation. Some utilities you find on the manufacturer's driver page may be useful. Some not.

Inspect your start menu and installed programs list. AV trialware is common.

There are programs that claim to list this and offer to remove it - two here: use with due caution!
    No guarantees.

Remember- the first thing to do as early as you can is start routinely using disk imaging (e.g. Macrum Reflect - free) to large enough external storage- before installing and configuring crazily and find your PC is suddenly unbootable and unrecoverable.

Plan for you personal data NOT to be on C: - separate from O/S maintenance.

    - note it's a new PC, so everything should be default and functional. Also gordonisnz was aiming to reduce the number of services simply because there seemed a lot of them. No evidence yet that any are using excessive resources, so seems the wrong target.

..unfortunately the title doesn't represent the actual issue... why would a brand new PC be slow to reach idle? I'd guess startups.

    Hopefully not a hardware problem...

Here is the link to Clean Boot state.

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

If you haven't install latest version of network card driver.

On Windows 10, you can also use the "Network reset" feature to fix Wi-Fi or Ethernet connectivity problems after installing an update or at any time that you can't connect to the network.

To reset the network adapters on your device, use these steps:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Click on Network & Internet.
    3. Click on Status.
    4. Under the "Change your network settings" section, click the Network reset option.
    5. Click the Reset now button.

WOW - Its 11:44 PM now & ive spent a whole day doing not much (of what i wanted to do). just diagnosing & problem solving.

What takes you 5 mins to do, will take my computer 2 hours to do...

THOUGH since the latest message (above) ive uninstalled the AVAST file-security programme & related Service & rebooted.

NOW - if i type something, the computer does what i want to :) Though its only been 5 mins, i'll test all day tomorrow & see if my computer is now fast.

(Ive had no prior knowledge / experience with Avast so no trust in it. So far im correct - its been slowing my computer down.) ive got other firewalls/virus scanners.

    Goodnight - will test tomorrow.

Ive tested on Gmail & Facebook - Previously VERY slow on this PC, now loading fast..
