Win 10 update from Version 1909 to 2004

    Hi

Updated Win10 from Version 1909 to 2004 this morning.

Installation proceeded without incident and everything appears to be working normally.

After running disk cleanup to remove Old Windows folder from C Drive I noticed a file named
DumpStack.log.tmp. I have attempted to delete this file by taking ownership, running in Safe
boot, set the value "EnableLogFile" = dword: 00000001 under:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ CrashControl]
to 0. but still not able to delete the file.

I am advised that the action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program.
Have googled and these fora but unable to find a solution.

Would appreciate some assistance/advice if possible.

The question of undeletable files is asked time and again - please feel free to search tenforums and use it as a resource.

Any undeletable file can be deleted when Windows is not running (unless there's some sort of file system or disk corruption I guess).

    - boot to a command prompt and delete from there
    - boot from a live boot disk and delete it
    - Install Emco Unlockit (free) and use that- it will schedule deletion on restart (when Windows isn't running). (Files and folders)

You might also try booting to Safe Mode when less is running, unless it's a permissions problem.

Then where files are locked by other processes there are programs like
    FileAssassin (files only).

    Thank you for your response.

I was able to fix the problem just prior to your post.
    Solution was :
"set the value "EnableLogFile" = dword: 00000001 under:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ CrashControl]
    to 0."
What I had failed to do was to reboot my computer and then I was able to delete file from
C Drive. Then I restored dword back to 1. Everything is back to normal and the computer
    is running fine.

You have several ways to delete the file in my post #2 - those apply generally to any 'undeletable' file.

You have a method specific to this particular file and symptom in post #3.

If you're not familiar with editing the registry and its possible risks, then I strongly suggest you use one of the methods in post #2 which are safer, unless it's necessary to use post #3 to stop the problem recurring.
