Dwm.exe Error Message At Startup Everytime?

    Dell xps 15 9550
    i5-6300hq processor
    8gb ram
    250gb ssd
    Windows 10 Pro

I had this laptop for many years. About a few years ago, everytime I start up my laptop, i get a message that says

Dwm.exe Aero glass for Win 8.1+ incompatibility issue

    you should download appopiate symbo
ls package for your os from microsft and click retry

But also few seconds after it, i get message of

it has the classic shell needs to configure itself for the new OS. So i always just close this message, then the aero glass thing everytime.

Now for over 3+ years, I did nothing to this. What I did was after the 2nd message shows up, i close it and it gives you this message and then i close it. Then i close the Dwm.exe and then go and do my thing on my computer.

A few weeks ago, while im playing online poker, multiple times my poker programs crashed and my 2 monitors basically turn off for a short bit... before turning back on and i get that dwm.exe aero glass for win 8.1+ incompatible issue.

I also have tons of speaker studdering as well. But not only that, my cpu usage is extremely high lately.

Now my question is... is the reason I didn't do anything with the Dwm.exe message the reason for all of this? Just googled dwm.exe and i read about is it uses a lot of cpu. The moment i open chrome... yes i have about 10 tabs plus at least saved and opened each time, cpu always spikes to 100% in the beginning. Is this normal?

How do i do this? But i never installed dwm myself right? Was this like a windows update that caused this? Because years ago when i used win7, i dont think i had this message. I think it was right after i downloaded windows ten... this might have happened?

Also could this have anything to do with my wallpaper? Its basically like an iceberg that i picked from one of the available wallpapers years ago. Do i by any chance have aero turned on? I dont have a clue about this.

Press the Windows key+X and choose Apps and Features, First Uninstall Classic Shell.
Then find Aeroglass and uninstall it, if it's not listed browse to
C:\Program Files\AeroGlass\ Right click unins000.exe and choose Run As Administrator.
    After restarting download
    Open-Shell
    (previously Classic Shell)

Hi there. I just look at my history and it seemed like reason why i downloaded aero a while back was because i like how the windows are glasslike. I remember when i first got the computer, i didn't like how it was etc. So can i keep it this way though?

Someone on another forum mentioned to download from Aero Glass for Win8+. So i could do that instead? But i dont know if sites like that could have virus/malware?

    Aero Glass for Win8+

Can anyone here confirm this is the updated aero for windows? So if i download this for my windows ten, i won't get that dwm error message anymore? This is the official link right?

Changelog is here. Lots of bugs si it would need updating regularly.

I cannot say what happens if you download and install it. In any case it would be wise to fully uninstall the old version and reboot before trying.

Okay i want to confirm a few things.

Years ago when i first got the dell xps 15 9550, i recalled the start menu did not look like the way i wanted to like in windows 7. So i downloaded classic shell as others said to do this. I don't remember how long it was until i started getting that error message of you need to reconfigure classic shell. Does anyone know when this could have happened? Like when i made the update to windows 1903? I had this message for a long time but i ignored it and just x it out.

The aeros... im pretty certain around the same time i downloaded aeros from a site right around when i got the laptop. I didn't like how the borders of the windows were. They were solid...and i wanted it to look glasslike... like windows 7 when i used windows 7. The message of the dwm.exe error where i close it everytime i turn on laptop, im certain i had this message pop for at least 3 years already. I always just ignored it. But if i uninstall it... does that mean the windows when i move it will look solid so to speak? Visually i recalled it bothered me a lot which was why i installed aeros.

But www.glasseu8.com, is that the site i downloaded aeros years ago? But i can download it now the upgraded version so it would upgrade it for my windows?

What do you mean by this?

Hi, I'll probably miss something here. As i understand it

    - you are having lots of (unstated) problems
    - you have Open shell and Aeroglass installed
    - you are unclear as to how to configure Open Shell

Open Shell: there is no support, near enough, from the group that has taken this on. There is a forum but I got a very rude response when having a crash problem of a type that has been reported by several users over the years.

Using that is a matter of using the Help file and exploring the options.

So i have to use the windows start menu like windows 10?

No, as per threads here on the program which you can find and read, Classic Shell still works for people, but no new builds of that. Open shell (same code) is the maintained version now.

Aeroglass: yes, you will lose border transparency if you uninstall it and your borders will change. If you suspect it is causing you problems, why not try uninstalling it to see if that's true? You can easily reinstall it. 1.5.13 is the latest, but please note, the last couple of updates to 1909 and 1903 have broken Aeroglass's transparency. (I started a thread on this on MSFN and this has been confirmed by several users, who also posted a sort of temporary fix. Meanwhile I've simply blocked Windows updates so it works).

If you have Windows issues after uninstalling Aeroglass for test purposes, start a new thread, giving specific details and screenshots as appropriate.

Before doing so, check your disk, check your file system (chkdsk) and run SFC /SCANNOW- both these from an admin command prompt.

You mean i have classic shell installed right? I"m confused when you say open shell?

I heard its still possible to use classic shell with the right update... so there isn't? I get conflicting information on this.

Okay so I want to keep aeroglass though. Because years ago, this bothered me a lot because the border transparency made things look a lot easier for me. Well if i uninstall it... what site do i go to install the new aeroglass? You say that 1.5.13 is the latest. I assume that is the version but what site do i download this at? Is it www.glass8eu.com? I updated to 1909 a while back.

Someone suggested i uninstall both classic shell and aeros in add/remove programs. But would you suggest this or not? I mean... i can uninstall classic shell and try to use the windows ten start menu but i know i dont like how it looks... thats why i downloaded classic shell years ago. But i know for sure i want aeroglass because it bothered me a lot with no border tranparency. But you would suggest i uninstall it... then install the new one? Well u say do uninstall first to see if i still get that dwm startup message right?

    Classic shell development stopped.
A group took it on, renamed it as Open Shell.
Google and you will find out more and the site.

As I said, some are still using Classic Shell with no problems. Open shell adds no functions I know of. Both look the same.

Use either of those as you like.

Aeroglass is a completely different thing.

After each feature update (Windows upgrade) it takes around 2 months for a compatible version of Aeroglass to appear.

Current version 1.5.13 and as I said, transparency is broken by the last couple of Windows updates.
