Can no longer move/copy files to shortcuts.
The subject says it. Windows will no longer let me drag & move or copy to a shortcut.
Is there a fix?

Hello, this begs several questions.
a. How long have you had this problem?
b. What change might have led to it? - Have you had a related update? (See Update History). Or installed/uninstalled a program?
c. Where is the shortcut?
d. What does your shortcut point to?
E.g. a folder, a drive, a program (e.g. drag and drop a document onto a shortcut to an office program to open it).....
..any?

e. Do you have a System Restore point you could use?
f. Is this unique to this user account? I.e. if you create a new user for test purposes, and log in as that user, do you see the same thing happen?

An observation, I have Firefox open and clicked/dragged the URL icon for this page to the Edge icon on the Taskbar, gave me a short list with this page as the top choice to click on.

Everywhere. It is all shortcuts.c. Where is the shortcut?
Many shortcuts point to folders. Some shortcuts point to applications to open them, and normally they also permit dropping an associated file on the application shortcut to open the file.E.g. a folder, a drive, a program (e.g. drag and drop a document onto a shortcut to an office program to open it).....

Note - an in-place upgrade repair install keeps all progs, data and most settings- as the tutorial says.

Turned out I did have a Restore Point. I thought I had turned that off because they almost never work and they take up a lot of space on my SSD.
I ran it and sure enough it failed as they always do but by some fluke it fixed the problem.

Great- granted, SR cannot be depended upon to complete successfully, but it sometimes does. Recently I suddenly and unaccountably had a 'user profile service failed to log me on' message- could not log on. Fortunately I have a daily restore point scheduled, and that worked.
Another basic - but quite different- thing tenforums members recommend time and again is to use disk imaging regularly and routinely- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free-paid).
