Hi Guys
I use w10 and Open Office and have been doing so for years, and this includes spreadsheets which once completed, I usually save to desktop.
Today for some reason, I created a new spreadsheet/file/save as/named it/save to desktop but it does not arrive there.
I then have to do start, search and it shows, but the icon does not arrive on desktop.

You could see if refreshing (F5) the desktop may allow the file to show on the desktop if it's just a glitch with the desktop not updating.
That search doesn't show the full path. It may not be on the Desktop (slip of the mouse click :)).

I have seen such glitches in the past due to the way that Windows works,
the Desktop is just a regular folder with special additional properties, such as the automatic showing of some system locations.
There is a possible issue as the desktop any user sees is not the only possible desktop.
There is a the new function that is added to Windows 10 of Virtual Desktops, which could cause the issue if it is switched on without your knowledge.
There is an older is issue as each separate user has their own desktop, this includes system users, one of these is owned by the "Default User", (used for networks that holds the default settings for each user) now the actual folder is tagged as "System" and "Hidden" but sometimes can end up taking a file meant for the actual user.
If you go to the root of the drive and Set "show hidden files" to ON, you can then search to find the file then move it to your desktop,

Pressed f5 a few times, not sure WHEN to do it, but see another s/s as it's saying it is on desktop when it's not. filed called selected 7 BTW

Fantastic, just about to write saying I did a 1 word message in WRITER and did file/save as/desktop...nothing, then saw you Refresh message and Bingo, I now owe you 2 pints due to this being second help success, thanks to you and other guys.

Hey Frenchman. I've been under the impression that LibreOffice is a more attended to application. That is uses the same base code as OpenOffice. For kicks you might want to download it (it's free) and see if you prefer it.
I haven't really compared the two but gathered Libre is the open office leader. I could be wrong.
Also, you can right-click the Taskbar and click Toolbars then choose Desktop, then by clicking the double arrow to open gives a quick list of what is or should be seen on the Desktop. It can also be quite handy if wanting to open something without minimizing something else.
