    Fail

For what it's worth I've been fighting this icon movement issue for months. I used DesktopOK as a patch for a while and I tried everything suggested including the registry patches stopping short of an OS reinstall. Last week I installed DisplayFusion Pro 8 (Beta 9) and the problem appears to be resolved. My icons used to move to the left on every boot and also any display idle turn off. For the last week with Displayfusion I have not had to restore my icons one time (it used to be many times per day). DisplayFusion Pro is a nice program if you have multiple monitors and want to control display behavior. There is a free version and fairly priced pro versions.

Nevermind - this failed after a few days.

This is a problem MS should fix. There should be no need to pay for software to fix a Windows bug.

its 29th of july now and this hasnt been fixed yet..
can it be because I am using windows 10 home edition and they dont care about making new updates because we got the installation for free?
or is bill gates lazy because he is a billionare?

IDK - My laptop which was upgraded from Win 8.1 Last August, never sees this probllem. But this new system I built and installed Pro on it, does it but not on a regular basis.

I've had this issue of desktop icons rearranging all of the time with Windows 10 Pro for many months now, especially since I upgraded to a 4K video card and monitor. None of the possible solutions suggested in this thread resolved the issue. HOWEVER, the update to the Windows 10 Anniversary update appears to have resolved the issue. I'm not seeing it and have tested multiple scenarios that previously always resulted in the icons rearranging (and worse, showing up all stacked on each other).

    This Worked for Me

I have been having the same issue as well as my computer wanting to go to "Sleep" after only five to ten minutes. What I did to fix the sleep issue fixed the issue with my icons rearranging each time I restart the computer.

I am running a Toshiba Satellite. I ended up turning all power settings to NEVER. Both for when it is plugged in and when it is running on battery. Keep in mind, that along the power settings, Hibernate is NOT found on that same screen. Hibernate was set to 10 minutes on my laptop. After turning them all to never, my laptop been sitting for 12 hours, plugged in, with no issues what so ever. I have even restarted the laptop and the icons have stayed where I put them.

For those that have not found the Hibernate setting, Goto Settings > Power and Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Sleep. It is in the sub menu of Sleep, and has Sleep, Hybrid Sleep, Hibernate, and Wake Timers.

I also turn the Power Buttons and Lid to Never for all settings as well in the same area.

So, for me, turning off all the power saving features, primarily I believe, Hibernate, fixed the issue with the Icons arranging to the Left whenever the system was restarted. Hope this helps.

    No luck

Oh well. It seemed okay for a few days and now my icons move every time my screen saver activates or I reboot. I am going to look into stopping my screen saver operations.

I may have circumvented this problem. About 3 days ago I fired up another DeskTop and then proceeded to forget that I even did that. The system has been re-booted a dozen times since then and I noticed that Windows on restart or re-boot opens up that other desktop. Well since then I have not had the issue of windows reorganizing my desktop icons.

I'm going to let it go another week and see what happens.
Well its been just over a month since I turned on an extra desktop. So far its working.

I did install DesktopOK, did some testing with it and it indeed works great for this problem. But I have yet to need it.

    Still have my fingers crossed.

I used this solution and it worked for me.

Press Windows key + R to bring up the Run dialog and type: %userprofile% and hit Enter.
Your User folder will open. Make sure that hidden items are visible by clicking the View tab then check the box Hidden items within the Show/hide group.
Next, open the AppData folder and then open the Local folder.
Select the IconCache file then click Delete.
