For me, 10 has *always* done this. Every computer I've put it on, upgrade or clean install.

I think I've had this problem at some point or another with every version of Windows but I don't think it's been as frequent as it is for me now.

It might help if everyone in this thread went to the Feedback Hub and added their votes to the issues already posted so they meet the threshold for a response.

The only times I had issues with Icons moving unwantedly with older Windows versions was with 9x where they'd get all scrunched together after returning from a full screen program that changed the resolution. May have been dependent on video drivers but IIRC it was pretty well cured by 98SE.

What really was a low level irritant with all Windows versions between 3.11 and XP was the elimination of the icon grid. You couldn't have icons placed wherever you wanted AND have them snapped to a grid. You were only allowed to have the grid snap with auto arrange. When MS returned the grid with XP, that made me happy.

Some may think these things to be small gripes, or they simply don't care. But put enough of them together (like 10 has) and it adds up to a lot of @#%@%@#^ that Microsoft doesn't seem to care about addressing, while they're adding more features or breaking networking for lots of people again.

They're like a dripping faucet in a restaurant restroom that the owner allows to keep leaking for six months. You want to drag the owner in there by an ear and scream FIX THIS NOW! IT MAKES A NEGATIVE IMPRESSION FOR YOUR BUSINESS!

Since Windows 3.1 I have never had this problem until 10. At one stage apart from work installs we had 5-6 installs (PC's laptops etc) running with no issue now with just two 10's both do it.

Have you guys been to the Windows 10 feedback hub? because I don't think Microsoft checks here. It's the closest you'll come to dragging anyone by their ear (that's assault by the way! :P).

You could - and should- post on technet - MS site- with a link to this thread.

Try to move Task bar to the right or left and see if your problem solves

This has been making me nuts for a couple of weeks, when most of my icons (but not all) started moving from the primary screen to the secondary one for no reason. Found a reference to the Desktop OK program in another post, so I installed it and saved my preferred icon layout to it. Icons have stayed put ever since. Crazy stuff.

If you guys look at Post #194, By opening another desktop (note I never use the other "desktop" but it says open all the time, even after pwr off/on), and since I've done that (a year ago), I haven't had the scrambling of the desktop Icons. Period. Its really weird in that My HP laptop (Home Version) has never had this problem. It's had every version of Win 10 since inception. A year ago I built a new Desktop (Win 10 Pro), and withing 5 hrs of using it, W10 re-arranged my DT Icons. Don't know if you every tried it and I don't know if it works across many systems, but it works on mine.

If you put a picture file on the desktop in Windows 8 or 10, then open, edit and save it. Windows will move the icon over to the first available spot on the left. Windows 95 through 7 do not do that.
