Happened again, with the same code. Is there something different from last time that stands out?

The process C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe (DESKTOP-) has initiated the power off of computer DESKTOP- on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
    Reason Code: 0x500ff
    Shutdown Type: power off

From a physical standpoint, if you feel comfortable, take off the desktop case and look around for accumulation of dust on components, CPU heat sink. Same for the fans, are they all running, filters on fan's get clogged pretty easy. You can buy a can of compressed air made for computer's to blow this stuff away. Have you found that this happens more in the summer time rather than winter? YMMV

    This happens during all seasons.

The last time it manifested is about a month and a half ago. If it was a overheating issue it would have manifested more often, no? Temperatures were fine. I was just watching a youtube video and browsing the web, nothing intensive.

The given code is the same as last time, 0x500ff.

A google search reveals this is an issue, but no specific reason for it.

Also, check Windows Reliability Monitor for any info if you have not.

May want to PM user Porthos. He is a computer repair person who has seen many issues.

Reliability monitor does not show an issue, and doesn't go as far as May.

    I got the PM.
The thing here is @noob0225 at least from the posts I skimmed through does not want to run the tools so the crashes can be analyzed.

When I see issues with shutdowns I have the machine on my workbench and can do many things to test. Doing this in a forum environment takes as I mentioned logs and time-consuming reading of those logs.

On my bench not only do I stress hardware but I grab a spare SSD and load Windows clean and see if it stops with a fresh install.

I personally also would not use Avast on any computer. Defender only.

I would also thoroughly test this drive 3726GB Seagate ST4000DM004-2CV104 (SATA )
I have seen a large number of issues with the DM series of Segates in the last few years.

Diagnosing a "custom-built" computer sometimes is more difficult than an off the shelf one.

Well, that is my .02 on the issue. @zbook is good at interpreting those logs when availiable.

So I am off to do the 75th install of Windows 2004.
