    Pleased you got it sorted.
The only comment I would add is that you would be far better using the included Windows Defender as your protection.
It is a free and highly rated anti virus and offers all manner of protection, not only as the anti virus for your system, but also browser protection in Edge and many other aspects of protection.

It main advantage over many of the third party anti virus programs and you have the free McAfee trial
    Antivirus: Mcaffee Livesafe
from your computer spec, is that Defender is 100% compatible with Windows 10, 100% of the time.
As indeed you would expect it to be, as Defender is provided by Microsoft.

My recommendation therefore is to uninstall McAfee and use the provided Defender.
If you wish to pursue that course of action
I will add the instructions to do so - shortly - to this post.

    UNINSTALL of McAfee
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...rams#v1h=tab01

    and see this please
    https://service.mcafee.com/webcenter...%3Dnln45e867_9

On that link from McAfee you will see the Method2 McAfee removal tool, this was always usually recommended, after the uninstall using the first method of via Windows and settings.

HOWEVER recently there have been problems reported after using the McAfee uninstall tool, which gets rid of the fragments of McAfee left after the uninstall via Windows.

You will see on the McAfee link that it says
If the standard Windows removal method fails, try Method 2.

so my advice having seen the problems reported by running the McAfee tool, is NOT to use it if the install via Windows is successful and Windows Defender is now shown on Settings as operational and in order.

To check that go Settings, which is the rectangle bottom right corner of desktop taskbar
click that and then click all settings
then on the window that opens click update and security
then on the next window click Windows Security on the left hand side
then on the main window check that all the first five entries have green ticks

then click Virus and threat protection which is the first of the five
and below towards the lower part of the window, which then opens, you will see
    Check for updates
It will tell you when last updated
IF NOT just at that time, click check for updates.

ANY QUESTIONS - on that please ask, as per my note at the bottom of this post.
Good luck with your new computer.

You are awesome. I was reading that McAfee will expire soon and I'll have an option to pay for it, meaning I'd be dealing with popups nonstop.

When I get to virus and threat protection there is no option to check for updates. No last updated message at all. It just says McAfee is on and no actions are necessary. below that there is a windows defender antivirus options tab. Says I can use it to check for threats so I turned periodic scanning on. Then I get the check for updates. I would like to thank you again. Never would have even thought about windows defender working with McAfee installed. Security version created 5/16. How often would you suggest i set periodic scanning for? And what's a rep point? How can I give you rep points cause you are very helpful.

I hope you are using didk imaging routinely- that gives you the means to recover quickly from disaster, even fire/theft/flood if your backup disk is stored securely, and of course unbootable cases and failed disks - even to a new PC.

Given your choice, it is then vital that you image both disks- if you only image Windows, and your other disk fails, you will be left with unusable parts of programs on C: that you installed to your second disk.

Remember my recommendation about storing personal data off C:

There is an excellent tutorial about saving space on C: and given the size of your system disk, you may well need to make use of it. You could of course get a larger disk too.

    @dalchina
Thank you for your help. Disk imaging is different from creating a backup? I created a backup but when I went to disk image it prompted me to create backup again. How often would you recommend creating a disk image? Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm new to alot of this and this forum has been super helpful.
Not sure how to find the tutorial for saving space but I will look into it. What is your take on uninstalling McAfee and using windows defender? Currently using both but McAfee will expire and I dont want to pay for it if defender works just as well. I appreciate your help! Thanks again!

Hi, I searched this searchable list
    Windows 10 Tutorial Index
    for 'space' for you:

Free Up Drive Space in Windows 10

McAfee has not been highly regarded. There are extended discussions on tenforums about how good Defender is.
There are AV comparative sites where you can read ratings of various products side by side.

'Backup' is a generic term. Frequently 'backing up' is thought of as making a spare offline copy of key personal files.

Consider: what would you do if your system disk (or any disk) failed?
Would you really want to start with a clean install, install all your programs again, reconfigure Windows, rewrite date from backups and found you hadn't backed up everything?

And what if your PC were stolen, or went up in flames?

If you have a complete copy of your disks in a safe place, you can even recover to a different PC. You have a second chance if your PC becomes infected by an unremovable virus or ransomware.

Disk imaging creates compressed copies of the used parts of the partitions imaged.

Macrium reflect (free) is typically good enough- paid is great. It offers a boot disk too with a couple of useful utilities.

    Imaging is typically
    - the first larger slower 'base' image
    - subsequently (with the free version) differential images (the difference between 'now' and the base image).

A backup job which you are prompted to create when you set up the base image controls how many image files are kept on your large backup disk, limiting space needed.

You can restore the base image or any differential + base image.

There are loads of guides - youtube, writeups on disk imaging on the net.
MR has a huge manual, and is updated periodically.
It has a one button option to select all partitions comprising Windows. Data partitions - and other disks -must be selected manually.

Frequency- I keep a record of changes and image after I think enough have occurred. It's a matter of judgement.

You can mount image files and extract any files with file explorer.

You cana supplement less frequent disk imaging with a backup program - perhaps one that synchronises files- for faster changing key personal files

It is kind of you to say so, but I can not claim - awesome, it is generally standard advice to use Defender on 10, for the reasons I mentioned mainly its 100% compatibility.

I wonder if you have actually uninstalled McAfee
    UNINSTALL of McAfee

until you DO - Defender will not be shown as Active with the green tick marks I mentioned later in my post 12.

Regarding the expressed appreciation - I am grateful, but it is not necessary, only if you so wish - just click the - thumb up-
    thank, on my post.

As I said on post 12
Please QUERY any of my advice, that you do not understand.
