After power on, First Boot FAST, after restart over 30 seconds!

    Hello:

I am having trouble with my Windows 10-1909 desktop. It is very new so it's not the equipment. The first time I boot up after powering up, the boot is about 3 seconds. Thereafter, when I restart, I see the white circles for over 30 seconds. Plus, it's EVERY TIME!
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi, please try turning off Fast Startup in Windows.

Please state the model of your desktop, the type of disks and their configuration. E.g.
    HDD, SSHD, SSD, RAID, Optane...

Please confirm the problem has existed from when you bought it. Did it come with 1909 installed?

    Here's all the Information!

    Hello:

I thought this was an interrupt problem or the system was waiting on a default period 'cause it's so predictable. But, as it's been requested, here's the information about my system.

First, it's a system I built from scratch. Here's the components, some from an earlier system (hard disk drives and small SSD) but mostly new. I put it together December 2018:

    1. Case: Cooler Master MCZ-005M-KWN00 Computer Case.
    2. Power Supply: Cooler Master V1000 1000 Watt Power Supply.
    3. Motherboard: ASUS X470 ROG Crosshair VII Hero Motherboard.
    4. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X.
    5. RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Flare X Series F4-2933C14D-32GFX.
    6. SSDs: 2xSamsung (MZ-V6E500BW) 500GB EVO NVMe Solid State Drive.
    1xSamsung 250GB.
    7. HDDs: 3xHDDs - variety of sizes.
    8. Video: ASUS NVIDIA GeForce STRIX-GTX1050TI-4G-GAMING.

I think that's all. The system works fin as the machine is upstairs and I haven't had a chance yet. However, wouldn't that also affect the initial boot-up after power-up?

    Thanks.

Thanks- presumably your disks are not in RAID or using Optane - I'm wondering how you achieved 3s.. presumably that is a true cold boot.

The idea of disabling fast startup was to see how much difference then existed between a cold boot and restart.

    History: again,
    - when did you last experience faster restart times without this problem?
    - how long has this problem existed for?
    - can you think of a change made which might have resulted in an increase in time to restart- e.g. a feature upgrade, update or program installation?

    Analytical approaches:

The Windows Performance Toolkit (WP Analyser, WP recorder) - free from MS- gives very detailed graphical analysis
    Some examples:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ess-exercise-1

And if you search tenforums for
    Windows Performance Toolkit
    Windows Performance Recorder

you can find more. Many find this daunting to use though.

You might get a clue if you enable verbose boot logging, ensuring the output is displayed during boot- however log entries are not time-stamped. However my guess is that's unlikely- too simplistic.

Wow - that's a lot to do! It's always been this way; when I first turned it on I was very hopeful it would be extremely fast, and, the first time I turned it on, it was. But, after reboot, I get this long, 30 - 45 second delay. Yes, the 3-second boots are from a cold boot. It will likely be tomorrow before I can get to it - home jobs await today!

Thanks for taking the time and I'll report back when there's something to report!

With Fast Startup on, you should get the benefit of a shorter cold boot time. See:

The Pros and Cons of Windows 10’s “Fast Startup” Mode

Hence the interest in the difference when turning it off. (Likewise- some DIY jobs await..!)

My restart takes a while, to.
    So what?

First-world problem: 30 second restart! Woe is me!
Solution: Don't restart. Just sleep when not in use.

Agree- I'd just like to know how 3s was achieved- and how long a cold boot takes without Fast Startup is on- hopefully the same.

I'd expect around 12-13s to lock screen with a SSD.
