Can't seem to repair registry, blue screen on boot.

    Hi all,
    I'm using Windows 10 64-bit

After moving my pc in an airport checked bag (one can only imagine what happened), my pc was running fine but then it was overheating and crashed. Upon startup I get the blue screen saying it needs to be repaired.

I've tried booting from a USB which has my windows installation on it. It can boot from that, but when it crashes or when i turn it off and on again it needs the USB to reboot, otherwise I get the same blue screen.

I followed tutorials on how to Repair windows using the boot method, but it doesn't seem to work- it just reboots again to this same blue screen.

Are there any other ways to fix the registry? Also any idea why it overheats much easier than before the move?

    I appreciate the help!

but then it was overheating and crashed.
Could be almost anything really. Muck and dirt inside could have been dislodged and the fan(s) blocked; something internally could have been dislodged - a bit unusual in my experience.

    I would try two checks:
    a. If you remove/disconnect the internal disk and switch the desktop?? (that's the only thing in your specs!) on, does it still overheat?

(What sort of PC are we talking about?)

    b. Boot from a live boot disk and see if
    - it's stable - does not crash
    - does not overheat
    - you can access the system disk

I've tried booting from a USB which has my windows installation on it.
    - Windows to go?

It certainly sounds as if it's not booting from the internal disk. Do you have a recent disk image? tenforums members tirelessly again and again recommend people use disk imaging. That way you can recover quickly if your internal system disk becomes corrupt, unusable, or even to a new PC if your PC is stolen.

I think jumping to conclusions about fixing the registry is somewhat premature.

Looks like it just shut down with no warning and that can cause Windows corruption.

Non-overclocked CPU normally just throttles then shuts down when it gets to the hard temp limit that Intel specified.

    Check the CPU heatsink push-pins!

If your Pc has had a BUMP.
    unplug everything.
remove the side cover(usually two screws).
Check that the Ram has not been dislodged.
check that the CPU heat SINK is solid and does not move about(this is usually fixed with screws or spring clamps).
Check all adapter cards are seated correctly.
And lastly all internal plugs are seated firmly.
If all seems well and you still cannot boot from your Windows to Go usb I would suspect The HDD.(they do not like being jolted).
While the cover is off its always a good Idea to clean all the Dust with a Vac And small Paint brush.
