New motherboard now wont boot into windows

Aloha everyone so this is what I have going on. fyi I built the computer myself have had it a couple years.
last week I got a USB overvoltage so I replaced the MB now it wont boot to Win 10
1: I installed a new Asus z390e motherboard it posted to the bios my drive shows up as the boot from when the computer was running last time. But now I get black screen to "Reboot and select proper boot device"
2: tried booting to a usb with windows but it wont allow me to do that unless I format the drive I don't want to lose any info so that's a big NO.
anyone have any better ideas ?
the drive does show up in my BIOS as the boot drive. I also pulled the drive and was able to read it on my laptop so I know every thing is still on it and working. Is there a script I could change to make it work IDK ?

What board did you move from?
Did you do a "Load Optimized Default (or something to that verbiage) on the new board?
Were you using AHCI or Legacy BIOS?
    Did you reinstall the OS?
    What GPU?

Windows 10 is pretty good about dealing with the drivers when you move an installation onto a new motherboard, but it's not guranteed.

You could try a startup repair, from a bootable USB drive. How to use Startup Repair to fix boot problems with Windows 10 | Windows Central

It's too bad that you don't have a backup image of the hard drive. That would be the safest way to avoild data loss. If you have some means of doing it now (your laptop?), I strongly receommend making an image. I have never used it, but the free version of Macrium Reflect seems to be very popular.

i moved from an asus z370 both board are ITX boards
i did upgrade the ram also but would not think that had anything to do with it
AHCI or Legacy BIOS-Tried both setting even tried other OS and windows UEFI

i tried booting from a windows 10 USB but it would not load because of the drive being portioned ? also tried repair nothing either.

As in getting a new kit or adding to existing RAM? That would be of interest.

First juggling around with the BIOS UEFi, Legacy setting is going to cause problems. With the system you have and using Windows 10, there's no reason not to be using UEFI. That's first.

After that, you could try a Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

If that doesn't work, and provided you have backups of your critical files, you could try a Clean Install Windows 10.

Personally, even though you can install a new motherboard without cleaning installing the OS (done it a few times) it's best to simply do a clean install starting fresh with motherboard and OS. In the end that's what I always wind up doing.

Also, don't forget the chipset drivers from the board vendor's site. And DO make sure you load optimized defaults in the BIOS before attempting either repair or clean install.

    Good luck.

You would set your Bios to the same settings as the last build. (ie) HDD Mode: AHCI, UEFI.Bios etc

How did you try to Repair? When you boot off of a USB Flash drive, you are not booting from the HDD/SSD so it doesn't matter if that drive is Partitioned.or not. You can only use 1 partition, the first partition on a USB Flash Drive to install Windows, others will not be read.. Where did you get your Windows 10 Installer from?
If you got the ISO from the Microsoft Download, did you use the Media Creation Tool on that same site?
If you used Rufus, you have to change the Partition Scheme to GPT/UEFI Bios.
When you put your USB Installer Flash Drive in Boot into Setup (Bios) go to the Boot tab, Disable Secure Boot/Fast Boot. Under UEFI Boot the Windows Boot Manager should be listed and under that should be your USB Flash drive, select this and make it First Boot Device. Save and Exit. You can also press F12 for a one time change of boot order. Boot off of the installer, choose your Language then choose Repair Your Computer.
