dual boot Win8.1 with Win7 ,reboot after I select Win 7

    Hi guys.
I know this is not W8.1 forum but I assume it's the same like with W10.
I have dual boot on this laptop and each time I select W7 in boot laptop restarts (turns off and turn on) and then it boots to W7.
Why does it happen, and how can I boot to W7 without reboot, just normal procedure?

Is Win8.1 and Win 7 on same drive?
Post a whole Disk manager window as an attachment so we can see how it is set.

Basically, your description shows the computer has to unload one version of Windows from memory before it loads the other. Memory is RAM/Random Access Memory and is volatile, retains data until the computer restarts, is shutdown or loses power.

You may be thinking of a VM/Virtual machine where one OS is running on top of the one booted to, I don't need do that but there are others on this forum that do have that experience.

Are you using the boot menu with little blue squares?

Have you tried changing to the normal one?

Yes, win 8.1 not Win 10
On a Legacy - MBR, BIOS takes the boot sequence to a MBR on the drive, that takes the sequence to a boot loader on a partition. This boot loader can load a OS or take the sequence to another boot loader.

As Win 7 and Win 8.1 are both Legacy and on same drive, I can't see any reason for a reboot.

Boot under win 8.1 and launch msconfig. What you see under boot tab?
