Highlighting PDF now Opqaue after turning high contrast on

During and after turning on high contrast, my PDF highlights are now opqaue. They save as the transparent boxes in effect while high contrast was on, even when I've reverted to default window themes. Thoughts? This is driving me crazy! it won't save my highlights!

I'm wondering if a different PDF viewer would behave differently, sideways solving your problem?

Ah I see now. Your advice worked--opening new documents in a different browser worked. It turns out that the only documents affected by the highlights were the ones that had been highlighted during high contrast mode. (A little disappoint you can't effectively toggle between the two modes. I thought the high contrast mode was good for writing my papers.) Thanks!

I'm a little confused here because you can't compose in Acrobat Reader. If it's an eyesight thing -- hating black letters on blinding white papers -- there are ways around this in various apps.

Right now I'm replying to you with (what I see as) white letters on a charcoal page --
