How To Keep html files and their associated folder together?

For some time win10 has been saving everything I download in 'Downloads'.

It got to 250G and over 60,000 files so I moved everything out of there.

    Tried to. It wouldn't go.

So I tried highlighting and moving just the html and that worked - except it left the _files folders behind.

I thought I had things set so's windows would treat html and associated folders as one.

    Apparently not so.

How do I fix that - get them seen as one unit and have that preserved ?

And is there any tool to join together again split pairs from all over your hard drive?

    Hi, you could try
Save any webpage as a single file in Chrome or Firefox - gHacks Tech News
    - is compatible with FF 76.0.1 e.g.

The mhtml file type is also designed for that. See:
How to save a webpage as a PDF or MHT file | PCWorld

Whether this is feasible with the current versions is another matter.

What happens if you just copy the folders back to where the html files are? Does the 'connection' re-establish itself? I don't know how yours got broken, but its an Explorer feature, and this page explains it a bit, including how to turn it off via a registry key.

I checked my registry, and (of course) the key does not exist. I wasn't prepared to create it to test for you! But with my 'working system, I was able to confirm (with some difficulty) that separating the html file and the _files folder, then putting them back together in the same place, did re-establish the connection - it only depends on the _files folder having the right name.

Just for info, as mngerhold said, the default behaviour is that the associated sub folders should move with the .htm or .html files. The link that he posted contains more information with a list of the various folder extensions which behave similarly. Also one can add the REG_DWORD value NoFileFolderConnection under

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

and the behaviour is as described in that doc, ie:

    NoFileFolderConnection 1
file and folder can be moved independently

    NoFileFolderConnection 0
file and folder connection is established and moving either the file or folder moves the other also.

I found that if you move the file or folder using the command box, then the the connection gets broken as well.

pn: the NoFileFolderConnection Key also didn't exist on my PC, but I created and tested it with the two values to see the difference (and finally deleting that Key also restored the default connection behaviour).

I moved all the orphaned folders over to the place I'd put the html files. It wouldn't do it in one hit. I had to do a page at a time.

But I got it done. So they're all together in there.

Just now I tested moving a few html's out of there and when I did the sub folders went with them.

So maybe I don't have the problem any more.

So I just continue and leave it behind? Nothing I can/should do, I think?

It seems you are back to normal default behaviour (ie. htm/html file and related folder move together).
