If you only had Windows 8 you would have to put 8.1 on top of Windows 8 then Windows 10 on top of that.
If you are using a USB stick or DVD to upgrade with, the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 is not required (and neither is Service Pack 1 for Windows 7). That is only required if you are going to upgrade using the Get Windows 10 icon and native Windows Update.

Thanks, and I am only moving from win8.1 to 10.

I am interested in reading a lot more about the upgrade and learning more about the problems involved from others as they have done the upgrade.

I will be waiting awhile before doing it.
    Thanks so much... Cliff

I went into MS site and downloaded media installation, it began installing 10 automatically and it worked fine. Happy and not going back to 8.1.

Thanks to all for your comments. Each of us have many others things to do, and for the last two days I have been doing some of those items,

Working on getting win10: I did make a second OSI DVD file of my Win8.1 data using the MediaCreationTool, and also used that same application program and a 8gb USB stick to put my win8.1 data on it. I hope that will work someday,.

I will not read more of the info messages others have posted... tks to all. Cliff ..

I did upgrade to Win 10

I upgraded to win 10 yesterday... thanks to all....

** Thanks to all. I am on-hold about going to win10 for a bit as I have been reading many comments and learning,.

During the last 3 or 4 days I am been doing much cleanup of the data and photos on my desktop harddrive. Too much junk data.. and extra win8 programs that have not used for a while. Now I have lots of free HD space again...

Tks and all be safe. Cliff
