you could try a re install of ie

right click the start menu and select programs and features
at the left select turn windows features on and off

remove the tick from IE and click ok will get rid of it
might be worth trying the search after doing this see if any difference

    then reboot
go back in and put the tick back on for IE
    this will re install it

it still seems odd to me that the settings rely on IE, this I thought was something MS wanted rid of....eventualy

I am in Goulburn, up 2,000 feet. Minus 4 at 10AM this morning. I have a Pal in Milton Keynes and I basically get the same weather as he does, a season apart. We had snow a few weeks ago. I made a video of what happens. The uninstall and reinstall of IE did not change anything. Curiosly, when I took IE out, it reverted back to 'word' again. How do I get the video to you?

    that's a shame it didn't work

to add a video, click the little film strip icon in the message box, 2 across from the spelling 'ABC' one

Tried the film strip, it said enter URL, like from a you tube video, no method to perform the task from the PC

asked my Pal in the UK to check the association and on
8.1 it is Windows Shell Common Dll
W7 it is - my Pal says .settingcontent-ms not in the list on Windows 7????

Just checked my Windows 10 Lap Top and it is Windows Shell Common Dll as the association. I upgraded from W7 on the Lap Top.
Now I just have to figure how to change that on this W10 Desktop, which I upgraded from W8.1

    Hi
If you go to Settings and then System there is an option there to set default apps

you might need to go to the bottom one to set per file type if something is wrongly assigned to word

    hope that helps
Hi, I've gone to the settings, unchecked the 'read only' optoin, applied the update and still doesn't work. I'm unable to apply the chosen setting? Three times this has failed. I'm scratching my head...wtw to do next?

NEW NOTE: ALERT I have the same sign in on both Lap Top and Desktop, they synchronised and now the issue has transferred to the Lap Top and the association is now Internet explorer. How crappy is that of Windows 10 to do that??????
