    Transferring pictures from phone

I have an early model Google Pixel that has photos on it yet when I plug the phone into the computer via USB cable and go to This PC and click on Pixel it says no data found on this device .

Anyone know how one can transfer pictures from the phone to the desktop computer please?

Perhaps the Pixel has an equivalent of the Android setting that tells the phone to use the connection for data exchange rather than just for charging?

    METHOD 1

If there are 'ordinary' pictures and not professional must have original quality photos, install the Google Photos app on your phone. Then set it to backup all the photos on the phone to the net. If you ever need one of those photos, log into Google (via a web browser) and there you are. You can remove the photos from the phone at this point. Google Photos storage is unlimited.

    METHOD 2

This is what Try3 was suggesting -- YouTube

If this doesn't work, look up your specific phone

I usually use Bluetooth. If your phone has bluetooth and your computer doesn't you can buy a bluetooth dongle.

Other than that upload images to a file sharing site then download them to your computer.

You don't mention whether it is a Google Pixel with Chrome or Android.

If it has Android then [whether the devices are linked by WiFi network, the phone's WiFi hotspot or USB cable] FJSoft's MyPhoneExplorer links them reliably, allows copying of files of all types and it contains highly customisable synchronisation/transfer tools.

I have been using it for eight years now and I think it is excellent. I would never consider having a phone without it.

Thanks for all the replies folks and the YouTube as suggested by The Pool Man worked perfectly. I think I shall also get a Blutooth dongle too as suggested by Callender so at least I have access to my pics on the phone.

NB The pics open in Paint is there any way of just opening the pics in the format they are on the phone please?

You could have used an Android app from Microsoft. Your Phone Companion - Link to Windows - Apps on Google Play

As for opening pictures in Paint, well, they have to open in some application. Paint opens a number of graphics formats. I'd expect the phone photos to be JPEGs. If you do a "save as" in Paint, the default should be to save in the same format. I have Windows set to show the file extensions (.jpg, .png, etc.), so the format is obvious without opening the files.

I'm a little surprised that the images open in Paint. I think the default is Photos, which is OK as a viewer, but otherwise very limited.

Thanks bobkin I will see if I can find a way around the Paint issue as I can always resize the pic in that app but would prefer just a straight image of course.

"resize"? You don't have to do that. You can zoom in Paint.

    (Am I being too literal-minded?)

Yes I tried that mate and it still stays in Paint now I have found that some are all over the place and it depends on what I view them with some are in Paint which you need to resize to see the entire picture where some are IMG which still open in Paint seems to be all over the shop at the moment but I shall figure it out somehow.
