I think the default is Photos, which is OK as a viewer, but otherwise very limited.
MS is caught between a rock and a hard place. Make it too simple and it's pointless. Add lots of cool features and developers ditch because they're always competing with MS.

A YouTuber made me aware of Polarr which is more like what Photos could be like.

So MyPhoneExplorer might be the right combo which you seek. It is for me.

You can resize or zoom or unzoom in Paint by the same method as with text in other windows, hold down the Ctrl key and press + or - or use Ctrl + the scroll wheel on the mouse. That shouldn't change the image, just the view of it.

Thanks Berton thats a great little trick now I think the photos are in some sort of disarray as I had some I took in London and on the coast out here and they came up just as I would like them but most open with Paint and I cannot find those other pics I mentioned at all now

Does the phone have an "external" storage card, usually a MicroSDXC? If so [most don't automatically come with the card], it should have come with an adapter that fits a standard SD slot on a computer and remove that Micro card, put it in the adapter then in the computer which should give access to the files stored on it. If using a Desktop without the slot there are pocketable USB adapters available, got my last one at Wal*Mart photo dept. and think it less than $20.00.
