Copying files = Trouble with Tribbles

    Hi,

Copying files = Trouble with Tribbles. I've been using Terracopy to copy/move files for yrs with no problems; however it doesn't seem to work with W10.

The W10 copying function works but info presented is cattiwampus. For example I origionally copied 12,999 files & in 1999 folders. But when I copied them to a 2TB USB HD then copied them to W10, the number of files tribbled increased to 207,164files/folders16,805. I used WE > properties in all cases.

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Seems strange if W10 is off the mark Win set 30 yr ago. Just think of the Kaos/Money if each city, town, etc used/changed the traffic lite std of Red, Yellow, Green to any color combo they wanted.

    Regards,

    Hello
I have never used Terracopy, it being a third party app
I do not mean it is not very good, but I have always kept away from anything that is catered for in Windows

I use, when on the odd occasion I want to copy large amounts of data or when I want to delete files with long name
    ROBOCOPY

    Here is the extensive guide
Robocopy "Robust File Copy" - Windows CMD - SS64.com

You will see some aspects added by 10

and here is the Microsoft guide
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...mands/robocopy

I think you will find it works well, although whether it fulfils what Terracopy did I do not know.

There is absolutely no way we can help you after the fact here, no information to really go on... I can assure you Teracopy works just fine for a lot of people. I suggest you file a bug report on their website.

    copying files w teracopy

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for the good info. I'm new to W10 & it seems copy/move I've used for 30 yrs of Win work somewhat differently in W10.

W10 copies quickly, but sometimes I end up with many more files in the destination location than were originally copied/moved. I'm doing more troubleshooting figure out why? I do a lot of copying/moving large # files/folders around daily, I'd like to know the "rules of the game".

The ideal copy method for me would be able copy/move files as below:

1] Copy/move files that need updating.
2] Copy/move files that are NOT in the destination location.
3] Leave unchanged files in place. Something like xcopy of the early days.

    Regards,

    klxdt

I was able to pickup/download 4-5 pieces of good info from this post. I'm putting a compendium together of Tips to share with others.

You might experiment with this using "Copy only newer files" option:

Need some help making a short batch file

I use Teracopy (with one "r") on a regular basis. It's never multiplied anything. Maybe check the copy from path.

The mention of 30 years suggests to me having some fun with File Manager from Windows 3.1, now available for Win10 from the Store.
