A quick check of oft repeated nuance would tell you that I do not hate 8, but rather tifkam.

Would you mind explaining what you mean by tifkam, as I am unfamiliar with the expression. Thanks

And I suppose, to be fair, most of my pontificating has been done over on 8 forums, so ya nay not have been aware of the nuance.

Thanks! I do go on 8 forums as well, but for some reason, I hadn't run across the term before.

If we put the symbol formerly used by Prince on a Tile for Start Page Button would we be sued for breach of a Registered Trademark? :)

I think we have to recognize that MS had to do something about tablet support. They were far behind in this market and probably missed a lot of opportunities. Their mistake was to spread that basically very good design on the desktop without any warning. It would have been very easy to spoonfeed it to the desktop users over time - of which there are after all more than a Billion.

It was the frontal assault with the Tifkam that got so many people annoyed. But that does not make 8 or 8.1 a bad OS. In fact it is a very good OS for the tablet (where I use it mostly). Now they are slowly backpaddling and we can hope that things will come together in Windows 9.

An exellent example where the new UI is very good is the W8Phone. That is a lot easier to use than e.g. an Android device. It has less function and less apps than Android, but I am not really missing anything (except the free VoIP via Google Voice). And more apps will come over time. I have both W8P and Android - so I can compare. It took me 20% of the time to be comfortable with W8P compared with Android. And when I started with Android I got a lot of support from the good people of the Android forum - god bless them.
